1981 Classic VW Westfalia Full Restoration - Ready for Summer Adventures!

1981 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon

-1981 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia conversion with new 2.0 Liter fully remanufactured air-cooled engine & new remanufactured Automatic Manual Transmission - Almost every component has either been replaced or rebuilt.Vans of this caliber are few and far between.If you are thinking of having one restored, save years of waiting for the restoration to get done and buy this turn-key van that is ready for adventure now! This vehicle is a pleasure to drive! The following restoration items were done back in 2018 - 2023:

-Engine: Professionally remanufactured and installed 2.0L engine done in 2018.Vehicle has approximately 2200 miles on since new engine. Replaced the finicky fuel injection system with large dual Weber 40 IDF carburetors for much more power. Mechanic estimated engine to have 100+ HP output.This engine swap included the professional installation of a thermostatically controlled electrical fan assisted oil cooler, and a BlazeCut Halon engine fire suppression system

-Transmission: New remanufactured automatic transmission 2023 by German Transaxle in Bend, Or professionally installed.This professional transmission swap included installation of a GoWesty transmission cooler for greater transmission longevity.Axels were rebuilt and new seals installed

-Fuel: Fuel Tank was replaced with new GoWesty replacement tank. All new fuel lines, new electrical fuel pump, new filter and seals

-Steering: New steering rack, and seals

-Suspension: New Front & Rear Bilstein Shocks, new front and rear springs, all new bushings, joints, bearings, grease, hardware, HD anti roll bar. New upper and lower ball joints, new radius rods, new bushings throughout, new tie rods, new sway bar bushings, rebuilt both drive axles, new steering rack, new wheel bearings front and rear wheels.Handles like a dream!

-Exhaust: New lifetime Bus Depot Stainless exhaust system

-Brakes: All new disk and drum brakes, brake cables, and stainless-steel brake lines

-Wheels and Tires: 205/65/16 Mazama brand 5-tire set upgraded to European 16” alloy wheels

Note on Westfalia water tanks and Westfalia propane stove – During renovation we decided to remove Westfalia fresh water, and grey water tanks and not replace them because we never used them since we usually camped in campgrounds, and removing the tanks created potential additional storage space.Existing Westfalia sink drains directly under the vehicle.Similarly, since we usually cooked on a campground table using a portable propane stove (included), we disconnected the Westfalia propane stove and have not rebuilt it, although it can be reconnected and rebuilt
