Description:

1972 Plymouth Road Runner

Vehicle Details

Up for auction is a very complete, very well optioned, unrestored, running, driving, 1 of 906 1972 Plymouth RoadRunner N96 Air grabber, 400, 4Spd console cars. Other options on the car include fender mounted turn signals, tuff wheel, inside hood release, rear defogger, buckets, rear speaker adjust, tach dash, black interior with buckets and Gf7 green outside.

This bird runs and drives great ! Is originally GF7 green then at some point the exterior was painted red, including top of engine, then someone in the past stripped all the red off the exterior and primed the whole car, parked it where it sat from about the late 80's till the late teens when the guy I bought it from aquirred it.

My first goal was to see what I had to work with, and much to my surprise it literally fired right up and ran extremely well. At that point it was a mission to get it on the road again. Pretty much everything works from the buzzer to the lights to the reverse light on dash to the tach, blinkers, dash lights, wipers, ect..and is a perfect candidate to just continue to enjoy and drive in its raw form, as you work on it and restore it at your pace, as they don't all have to be immediate perfect trailer queens.

Nearly all the hard to find and expensive stuff is present on this car, from the original nearly perfect 72 RR grill, to the original very complete Air Grabber hood (which is functional) the ag vacuum canister, AirGrabber switch ( switch is functional but needs new vac fittings on back) and solenoid is present. Air cleaner and base are missing.

Rear defogger switch is present but the fan on the rear panel is not. Tach works as does the speedometer, temp gauge, fuel gauge will jump when grounded at sending unit. Front buckets are in good shape, bottoms will need recovered, back seat is in very good original condition. All seat belts are present.

Console and pistol grip handle is from Tony's Mopar parts. A top plate is not present or included. Carpet presently in the car is a new correct 4 spd console carpet that I mistakenly ordered wrong and cut for a 72 bench seat 4spd car I have, but would of been correct for this car being a console 4spd prior to me cutting.. So I used it for this car for the time being.

All lights, including dash, high/low beam, turn signals, dimmer, ect.. are functional.

Over all this is a very solid car. Fenders, fire wall, cowl, torsion mounts, front and rear frame rails, rockers, hood, deck lid, trunk floor, rear deck filler, lower front valance and rear dual cutout valance, doors, and roof are all very solid and straight.

Driver side will need the typical lower rear quarters replaced as will the passenger side. Amd lower rear quarter repair panels that go from wheel well to lower lead seam before rocker, and lower rear from wheel well all the way back, and, extensions are included in auction. Passenger side should receive a skin, but that's up to the new owner to decide.

See pictures for floor. Over all the floor is in great shape and very solid. I did replace the section under the foot area of the driver floor up to the seam. Passenger side just a palm size patch will be needed when ready to do so, but, a full passenger front is included for new owner to cut from.

Glass is all good. Passenger side door has a small rust spot on the lower inside corner on the latch side of door, but other wise solid. Only other mentionable rust is a easily repairable 1/2 dollar size spot on the drivers inner fender ahead of the seam. Both front and rear bumpers are straight, solid with typical age stains and pits and are good candidates for rechome or, prep for body color which was my path. All trim on the car is in very nice shape. It is missing the upper door trim piece on both sides.

As far as drivability goes, it does run and drive very well, ive put a few hundred miles on it so far this year and will continue to add to that till it sells. I installed new pirate jack 4 wheel disc brake conversion kit, new InlineTube full brake line kit, new master cylinder, new hoses, fittings, etc... (Three drums and backing plates are included in the sale if one chooses to want them..) New rear shocks,

New fuel tank, and sending unit, new Speed demon carb ( modern thermoquad ), the thermoquad that was on it was incorrect for the car, new fuel pump, new water pump and belts. 4 new cooper tires on 15x7 front 15x8 rear magnum/road wheels.

As far as numbers go, this road runner has its original fender tag, but no build sheet was found yet. Core support matches the dash, cowl, title and fender tag. The 400 in the car is a correct 72 400 big block and is about as close to numbers matching as it gets only being 32 numbers off the vin of the car. Maybe the car that was built 32 cars ahead of this one is still out there and has this cars block, but, it is what it is, 32 numbers off the vin of the car and is Not numbers matching. See pics of engine #s. Trans is not matching to the car but is a 23 spline with the correct shifter mechanism and rods. Shifts excellent. 8-3/4 323 rear.

All in all this is a very complete running driving un restored one of 906 very well optioned real 1972 big block 4spd N96 Road Runners. I do my best to describe what I have for sale, but I'm sure I've missed a few things that you'd like to know so don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have. If you would like more pics of anywhere on the car or any more info let me know.

As far as payment goes, other than the non refundable deposit of $500.00 due once auction ends, I will only accept cash or direct wire transfer for remainder of payment. No other forms of payment will be accepted. And full payment must be made within 7 days of auction end. Wire or any form of payment must fully clear before vehicle or title will be released. I do not offer shipping but will assist where I can.
