1977 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series

SEE YOUTUBE TEST DRIVE AND WALK-AROUND TOUR BELOW!
This Mercedes-Benz 240D is 46 years old and is being sold as-is. It is a daily driver and is ready to be driven to your destination. So many parts have been replaced over the years that I would trust it for a multiple day journey. There are videos below to help you get a better understanding of the vehicle, also I have almost 200 photographs that can be shared via Google drive. I will also share a comprehensive list of all services/repairs made since 2011. You will need to pick the car up in Alameda, California. The oil was changed on 4/2/2023. The car does not have any drips underneath it!!! I am ready to move on to a new project.
The car has a manual transmission, manual climate control, and is California SMOG EXEMPT (no emissions controls in 1977). The body is straight and has very little rust due to its pure northern California life. The interior is the ever-durable MB Tex, Bamboo color, it has German loop style carpet (hole in carpet on driver's side) and Coco mats for the front only. The car was purchased at Mercedes Only in Anderson, CA with 327,679 miles on it in 2011, the transplanted engine had approximately 120,000 miles on it at that time. I have driven it to the ferry in Alameda for the last 10 years and it has been wonderfully reliable for all of that time. It has been maintained at a respectable level - I owned a 1981 240D starting in 1996, and have had a 1976 240D, 1985 300TD, and 1982 300SD; I learned how to care for these cars well. Unlike cars that have not been well loved, on this car: the odometer works, the central locking works, the mirrors are operable, the front windows are operable, there is bluetooth phone connection to the radio, there is zero play in the throttle, the glow plugs only take 5 seconds to heat up, and the seats are in such good condition it makes you smile every time you see them.
The car drives well in the city and on the highway. It is a 240D, so it requires 3rd gear when climbing steep grades, but does not smoke, even at full throttle. Repairs over the last 12 years (only 30,000 miles in that time) include: New fuel tank and sender, radiator and *all* coolant hoses under the hood, custom-made oil cooler lines ($500!), power steering pump, plastic injector lines, front wheel bearings, rear calipers, all rotors, thermostat, alternator, all door strikers, flex disks (not new as accidentally stated in YouTube video, but less than 30,000 miles), rear sway bar links, upper control arms, drag link, steering damper, tie rods, shocks, differential mount, engine mounts, drive shaft support bearing, shift bushings, idle bowden cable, hood release cable, oil pan, all rubber vacuum connectors, all rubber brake hoses, all door seals, windshield, windshield seal, and gauge cluster refresh including needle painting. Brake fluid and coolant changed every 3 years, valves adjusted and both fuel filters changed every 10,000 miles, oil changed every year or 3,000 miles, manual trans fluid changed (synthetic), and differential fluid changed. Air filter replaced twice in 30,000 miles (crazy). Battery is Mercedes from 2020.
The brakes can pulse when slowing from highway speeds, but it goes away as you slow down. The steering gear is 46 years old and has about 2 inches of play; the alignment is fine however the steering wheel is not centered properly. The clock keeps time, but the hour hand is offset about 30 minutes. The gauge cluster barely lights up at night despite having LED bulbs retrofitted. The fog lamps do not work. The far edges of the MB Tex visor area do not attach properly to the A pillar area. The videos below do a good job of outlining various quirks of the car, scratches, etc. for instance top of driver's door has a deep dent, and the rear bumper covers are pulled away a bit from the rear impact strip. The paint has oxidation on the hood, roof, and trunk, perhaps it can be buffed (I have only used cleaner wax and my own arm). There is not a guarantee that I have covered it all here and in the youtube videos below (where there is MUCH more information), but I have endeavored to do so. I have sold a car on ebay before and received a top rating from the buyer.
Here is the first of three YouTube videos - the first is an overall tour of the car...
