1965 Mercedes-Benz 404 DoKa Crew Cab
Rare crew-cab Unimog 404 DoKa (Doppel Kabine)If you don't know what a Unimog is - just Google it, watch some youtube videos, and come back here in a few hours.
This is a long ad, as this is a pretty unusual vehicle, so I'll try to share all the things that _I_ would want to know if I were shopping.
This is the real deal: over 18" of ground clearance, better than 45 degree approach/departure/side-hill capability, selectable locking differentials, 6 spd forward, 2 in reverse, and more fun than a soccer team of greased blondes. No - seriously....
Ready for the next owner... This unusual Mog has been a LOT of fun. It has unreal trail ability, and ready to climb almost anything you point it at. It eats Hummers for breakfast, and poops Jeeps. It's been to Moab many times (and has been featured in the Mogs at Moab videos) as well as the Rubicon Trail, the Johnsons, Truckhaven Hills, and bunch of other places. The two trail shots are few years old, the driveway photos were just taken recently for this ad.
This is my 5th Mog, and I had planned to keep it forever. (I've owned it since 2002.) Unfortunately, 'forever' has come... I've got young kids now, and haven't really got the time to go play. And now that I've lost my indoor storage, it's time to let it go to someone who has the time and space.
Yes - it IS street legal, it was last registered in California, and it has a valid, clear CA title issued in my name. Despite the size and GVW, they called it an SUV, so registration and insurance is cheaper!
It's got special brake drums to fit the 16.5" wheels, mounted with Super Swampers and 'swedish' bead locks. (An internal bead lock that's street legal.) Tires are old, and probably a good idea to get new ones. Also has a full set of OEM wheels and tires, plus a few extras, and a (brand new) set of brake drums and matched brake shoes. (Which are included.)
Some of the upgrades/modifications include the 24V 12,0000 lb. Warn winch, with a removable carrier than mounts front or back, power steering, and roll cage - all built and/or installed by Colorado Unimogs. (I do have the original front bumper.)
Miata seats in the front, and a WIDE bench seat in the back. (Belts for 3, but have had as many as 5 in it.)Has a nice custom made sunbrella fabric summer bimini top that snaps to roll cage. It's pretty much a summer top for shade - not a full, weather proof top. A good upholstery shop could fabricate side and rear panels - but I never needed/wanted them. Has a set of 4 OEM side windows in fair to poor condition. (The metal frames are good - but the plastic window material is dried up and yellow. I've never used them, so they've been in storage for years.)
Pertronix electronic ignition, batteries located on top of frame, 12V converter for running typical items, etc, etc. . .
Have a ton of odds and ends - such as an extra Doka windshield frame (taller than stock), extra mirrors, tie rods, and various spare parts and the like. I also have 2 full sets of the factory workshop manuals. (Original, and a 'shop' copy.)
Included as well is a propane kit - which includes a tank, pressure regulator, and adapter to allow it to run on propane. (Not connected - but it is complete.)
The bad:I've not used it in years, and have lost my storage - so it's now sitting outside in my driveway. It turns over fine, it started and runs - but it's not been run much in years, and needs some tuning and probably fresh gas. Batteries are only a couple of years old. Also - the front fenders are long gone. (Removed for trail clearance, then lost or stolen - can't recall.) It certainly needs some TLC to to bring it back to it's prime, but can easily be a great trail rig once again. The cab heating has been disconnected, but I should have all the plumbing pieces.
I'm happy to allow inspections on site. For confirmed bidders, I will do a video conference to answer questions and/or show the rig in real time.
It's not quite one of a kind, but it's a pretty unusual truck. You can't go ANYWHERE without people waving, kids jumping up and down, and everyone generally excited to see you. It's like driving around in your own personal parade.
Payment by verified and certified funds (or of course cash.)
Not interested in selling off any of the parts individually, and sorry - no trades unless you want to swap me for a decent Porsche 997 Cabrio. (Or better.)
I will assist with a local pickup or work with your shipper. For a shipping estimate: the rig is about 6500 lbs, with swampers is 90" wide (with NATO tires it's 80" wide) about 16' long, and 8' high. You may need an open top transport due to the size.
Buy-it-now is $15,000, reserve is $10,000.
Please note that the truck is also available for sale locally - and the auction could be cancelled in the case of local sale - so I suggest you don't wait to the last minute to bid.
