Description:

1971 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic

This is a 1971 VW convertible. We have owned the car since 1981 and it’s been in the garage for over 30 years. I parked it after I was hit on the passenger side door. At that time, it was nearly impossible to find a convertible door, so it sat in the garage. I bought a short block and rebuilt the 1600 dual port motor. I also bought a nice passenger door but never installed it. I have many extra parts that go with the car because I’m done with VW’s and need the space. The front tires are nice, and the rear tires are new. I have never tried to start the motor, but I did do a compression check, and it was good at the time. It hasn’t been registered since 1986. Consider this a really nice parts car or one that you could drive after some repair.

The car will need substantial work before it is ready for the street. The brakes don’t work except for the e-brake. The car will have to be trailered or towed from here and that’s your responsibility. The top is usable but has a couple of small holes that could be patched. The gas tank will have to be cleaned out before use. Although it’s been empty for decades it may have some sediment. There is no windshield glass, but I have a new rubber for it along with an Empi rubber kit for the hole car. I put a new steering gear in it before I parked it and it’s still tight. I don't see any rust on the pan or floors. If you've got the room, you could also make some good money parting this car out.

My wife and I bought the car from a flipper and some of the bodywork is not perfect. I replaced both rear fenders and front and rear panels and the panels need to be spot welded in.

Check out the pictures of the interior. The seats have no tears, and I have all the door panels. I also have the glass for the soft top.

The motor has a new performance exhaust system and a new Bosch coil.

Check out the pictures for the extra parts that are part of the deal:

Extra hood, extra P/S door, extra transmission (unknown condition inside), two sets of single port heads, Engine stand, engine cooling tin, oil coolers and oil pumps, mechanic’s manual and several over the counter manuals, generator and stand, new taillight lenses, and lots of pushrods and other Bosh stuff.

Overall, it’s a decent car that would make a nice driver with some time and effort.

Please contact me with any questions. I’m disclosing everything I know about the car because I don’t want any surprises for either of us.

Car comes with Bill of Sale and original pink slip with no non-op. Registration is your responsibility.

Please be clear that this is a car that needs to be restored and there are no guarantees on the vehicle or the engine. It’s not a rust bucket, but there may be hidden flaws that I cannot see.

Please message me with any questions.
