Description:

1974 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Riviera

"Life is what happens while you are making other plans."-John Lennon
I am so close to completing this restoration, but life developments (all good, thanks) are forcing me to hand this wonderful bus off to some lucky person for the final touches.
HISTORYThis is a beautiful specimen. She was built in Manheim, Germany in 1974 for the European market, and was subsequently shipped to Oregon to undergo her conversion to the Riviera style camper. Scrupulously maintained throughout her entire life, she was stored inside (properly) for 19 years up in Northern Washington State.I resurrected her in 2011. She was pulled from a barn, I had her tuned, put on some new tires, and drove her all the way down the coast to LA. the next day.
MECHANICSMuch to my wifes chagrin, I can say pretty much everything is new or rebuilt throughout.
Engine just finished break-in period following rebuild and upgrade from 1200 to 1900cc. (Yes, she does hum down the highway.)
Rebuilt transmission still under manufacturer warranty (not sure if transferable).
Suspension, front end, transaxle, brakes, tires, electrics and fuel system all revamped.
Hidden kill switch for the electric fuel pump installed as a security measure.
BODYGood old German steel and a lifetime of detailed maintenance have left her with virtually no chips, no dings, no rust.
The Riviera conversions are hard to find. The great benefit is the poptop design which lifts the entire roof straight up, rather than the angled lift design of the Westfalia. Sleeps 2 up top and 2 down below.
INTERIORThe original particle board cabinets have long since decomposed and been replaced with maple hardwood throughout - custom panelling, cabinets, headliner and floor.
Custom made waterproof, UV protected, heavy duty pop top tent with 4 heavy duty zippered window screens.
Custom made orange/white striped awning also included.
Brand new beautiful custom made front bucket seats.
FULL DISCLOSURE: To complete her restoratio, she needs new window/door seals and a paint job. (I have a local VW restoration company estimate of 5K).Also a few little volkswagenny things: Gas gauge needs recalibration. Turn signal needs to be manually turned off. Radio is kinda poor. Wiper blades old. Fabric worn on rear cushion.
WIFE DISCLAIMER:Pictured bedding not included.:)
Fair value reserve. Good luck bidding!
