1979 Pontiac Trans Am

Vehicle Details

I have a 79 Trans Am that belonged to a former Robert Yates Racing team member (Jay Thompson) who was in the process of building it up for his wife, but they were both killed on his motorcycle when a pickup truck driven by a 19 year old passed them in a no passing zone and crashed head-on with a van, creating an unavoidable mass of wreckage. This tragic event occured in July of 06. Since then the car sat in a Mooresville NC garage until the deceased father (some guy's friend) brought it up to somewhere and completed the engine/transmission installation and several other tasks to make the vehicle road-worthy. Besides the body being rust-free and very straight, one outstanding feature of this T/A is the engine, which was built, balanced and blueprinted by Dave Vaseleniuck, who was Bobby Allison's engine builder for many years. Jay carefully selected and gathered specific engine parts because he knew just what he wanted in the way of a very powerful yet tractable and reliable engine for a street driven car. It's got the no longer manufactured Edelbrock OL4B dual-plane intake manifold, 1972 Olds 350 heads (this specific version was the only head that had the desirable combination of large valve size, induction hardened valve seats, and 69cc combustion chambers) ported, decked and squared, exhaust ports have been individualized (Mondello style) 1.875" Intake valves, 1.562" exhaust valves, forged steel crankshaft, rebuilt GM Turbo 350 transmission, Dyno-max Performance headers and all kinds of cool stuff. The paper trail is in the glovebox(receipt from Dave Vaseleniuck for balancing and blueprinting the engine, amongst other documents) ...the preceding is a summation of the paperwork found in a box of parts. This was Jay's car and the parts are here and it runs and drives beautifully. Car to be sold as is with no warranty. I can send serious buyers pdf's of the documents found.
