1966 Plymouth Barracuda
1966Plymouth Barracuda.
Thesleek fastback design, unique to the Barracuda, still turns heads today, withits signature large rear glass and sporty profile. First introduced in 1964,the 2-door Pony Car produced by Chrysler Corporation was based on the A-bodyplatform. The Barracuda debuted in fastback form on April 1, 1964. The greatesteffort was put into creating its easily distinguishable 14.4 sq. ft. rearwindow, a collaboration between Pittsburgh Plate Glass (PPG) and Chryslerdesigners that created the largest ever installed on a standard production carat that time, and gives this car a very unique look. 1966 was the last year forthis design.
ThisBarracuda is equipped with a 225 CID Slant Six Engine, 145HP, with a 1 barrel carburetor. It’s paired with a smooth automatic transmission that works great foreffortless cruising. The engine starts and runs great. It has a new fuel tank, fuelsending unit, fuel pump, carburetor and a new exhaust system. It looks like thepan gasket is leaking and the radiator leaks.
Italso has the Cool Aire air conditioning unit supplied by the ChryslerCorporation parts department. The air conditioning works but will need a chargeto cool correctly.
Thedash features oil pressure, alternator, temperature, fuel and PerformanceIndicator gauges. All are in working order. The speedometer does not work and the dash does not light up. Thetitle states the odometer exceeds mechanical limits. What appears to be theoriginal AM radio is still in place and it works. The wipers, heater and rear domelights work. Headlights, brake lights, and turn signals work. It featuresfender-top turn signal indicators with a stylized fin motif.
Theprevious owner did some major work including new floor pans and rear quarterpanels installed. The frame is solid. The paint looks good from 50 feet but it has overspray andsome runs. The body work is not perfect. The chrome has some pitting.
Theseats have rips in them as shown in the photos as well as some rips in the headliner. The padded dash is also ripped. It has a new front carpet set and the original rear carpet.
TheCragars have some pitting and have Cooper 195/70R14 Evolution tires. The caralso comes with what looks like the original wheels and original hub caps plussome additional miscellaneous parts.
Thecar starts, runs and drives fine. The steering is loose and in need ofalignment.
Thiscar is a good one to cruise in or a perfect one for a complete restoration. Partsfor this car seem readily available, like seat covers, radiator, rear carpetsets, etc.
