Description:

1973 Opel Opel

Selling for my son. We rebuilt theOpel together in 2012, for his first car. It is overall a solid car that is an excellent candidate for full restoration. He later took it with him to Ft. Bragg NC as his daily driver when he was in the Army. He made multiple trips home and back (~500 MIles) without any issues. He's got a family now and needs something with a backseat that's a little more family friendly than this manual two-seater, so unfortunately we find ourselves having to sell it.

In 2012, the engine was rebuilt professionally at a performance shop. While conducting a complete rebuild, the 1.9L 4-Cylinder was bored out and and a performance camshaft was installed. Exhaust headers and larger pipes have been installed all the way to the exhaust tip. The Odometer has never worked since we've had it, but we estimate that the engine has around 15,000 miles on it (Hence our mileage number entered for the ad itself). The original 4-speed transmission was also rebuilt and shifts well. Neither the engine nor the transmission have ever given us an issue.

The interior seats, carpet, and headliner have all been replaced with new materials. We installed a leather wrapped dashboard. The refurbished interior side panels for the doors. The steering and center piece were also updated with a new racing style version.

I believe we replaced all of the major if not every suspension part (shocks, rear springs, joints, sway bars, urethane bushings...). 9" power booster, calipers, wheel cylinders and pads were replaced.

Updated and professionally installed radio and speaker system w/ amp. The first speakers we installed on the rear deck blew out so welater had to go with higher quality equipment that is stationed more forward in the vehicle. Therearspeakers can be easily replaced if you choose so, sincethe older ones are still in their housing, just disconnected. Either way, I think the radio sounds good, and can easily compensate for the increased road noise inherent in these older cars.

We installed new steel floor boards and cut out and replaced sections that had significant rust damage. I'm sure that we missed some.

All of the wires from front to rear were replaced up to and including the fuse panel. The dash and instrument panel is still original and could use some rewiring for a full restoration.

These models did not have A/C. Some later models did and you can upgrade this if you choose. It does have working fan and heat.

The exterior is "Sable Black" with metal flecking in the paint. Fender flares were installed by the PO during their restoration attempt and we decided to keep them. There are minor scratches, chips and cracks in the paint job that might not show up via pictures but I'll try my best to document these slight flaws. Otherwise the paint job has held up very well and still looks great when washed and waxed.

The front and rear bumpers have been replaced with chrome polished stainless steel replicas that look like the original.

If you have questions on anything other than what I've mentioned feel free to ask and I'll do my best to get back to you as soon as possible.

Also, any interested parties are more than welcome to visit and test drive the vehicle to get a better idea of what they're looking to purchase.

Keep in mind that this is a nearly 50 year old vehicle and while it starts and can be driven, it will need a little TLC to make it 100% reliable and a daily driver again. You may want to consider new tires and adjusting the timing to get it to really purr. I also think the exhaust needs a hanger to lift it and quiet a rattle.

We purchased and acquired some new and OEM spare parts that will be included (glass, electronic ignition, alternator, calipers, suspension parts, shocks...).
