Description:

1974 MG MGB GT V8

If you are familiar with the story of the MGB GT V8, hen you will be impressed with this vehicle. This 1974 MGB GTV8 is built as a tribute to both the effort that Ken Costello exerted in building the first V8 powered MGBs and one of the 7 factory left hand drive V8s imported to the states. Please note the following about this vehicle:

  • · Straight, lean 1974.5 MGB GT built in October 1974 VIN GHD5UE362059G, ommission Number: G23D080735, ody Number: GU23D 00231GP;
  • · Correct 215CI, .5L Aluminum V8. The block number is HI305245 which is the 1-year only (62’) 190HP@4,800 rpm 11:1 compression engine. This is the same engine Costello attempted to persuade British Leyland to use in the GT V8. Please note that is fed by an Edelbrock or Holley (?) 600cfm 4 barrel carburetor instead of the factory SU set up;
  • · Factory brass top MGB GTV8 radiator and overflow canister;
  • · Electric fan;
  • · Factory 4spd overdrive transmission with 3rd gear lock out;
  • · 5 correct Dunlop composite alloy factory MGB GT V8 wheels;
  • · New tires (less than 1,000 miles);
  • · Damask Red paint that looks impressive from 3 feet;
  • · As a whole, his is a clean and well appointed interior including black vinyl seats with new foam and coverings (front and rear) mounted over grey carpet with grey headliner.
  • · White Smith gauges;
  • · New interior panels and switches;
  • · Proper MGB GT V8 badging;
  • · Leather wrapped small steering wheel for increased responsiveness;
  • · 4 wheel tube shocks and proper ride height;
  • · All glass and seals are in above average shape and/or have been replaced;
  • · Later model vacuum assist brakes;
  • · New battery;
  • · Former museum vehicle;
We would like to point out the following observations:

  • · Passenger front fender has slight cracking in the paint. Does not appear to be “Bondo” cracking. Two small to get a photograph of and cannot be seen from 3 feet. It is there however;
  • · Speedometer works but does not read correctly. I recommend having recalibrated;
  • · Brakes work and are serviceable. I like the feel of non-vacuum, ervo style brakes and am not used to the “consistent soft feel” of these. Of 23 MGs I have owned, have only had one other with these brakes. It was the same way. I am told they are correct. They work, he car stops quickly and in a straight line. I point it out because it is something I would want to address out of preference and we want to be as transparent as possible in representing our vehicles.
Overall this is one of the best built V8 MGBs we have come across. It is not a restro-mod. Aside from the carb and intake you have to know what to look for to know it is not a factory car. Car is in exceptional mechanical condition. I just completed a long weekend at the Texas MG gathering in Tyler (car placed 2nd in show) along with several shorter trips. Car runs and drives beautifully. One of the most modern feels of any MG I have owned. I would have no hesitation driving this vehicle anywhere. Feel welcome to contact me.

There is no reserve. Please don't ask "what will we take?" We will take the asking price. We are open to other offers and we are going to sell the vehicle to someone who appreciates it. If you would like to buy the vehicle, ake an offer and we can dialogue about the price and/or any possible trades you may have. You never know, e might accept your first offer! Please know you will not offend us, owever, his is arguably one of the nicest, leanest, ost well appointed factory style V8 MGs to be offered in the recent past.
