Description:

1974 Mercury Capri

1974 Mercury (Ford) Capri 2800 V6

To start with, let me first say that this car belongs to my nephew, and I understand that there is a lot of information in my ad. I also understand that this may be boring to the person who is just looking and not buying. However, for the person who is looking to buy and spend their hard-earned money, there is never too much information.

As for myself, I am a (73) year old kid that loves muscle and classic cars. For my work, I am retired from managing a Correctional Facility here in Maine and had worked for the Maine Department of Corrections for (40) years. I am also a respected member of my community. I mention this only so that prospective buyers will have some idea as to who they are dealing with. Also, please check out my eBay feedback that is at 94.1% with (1,350) transactions and only (1) BS negative feedback.

On 25 February 1974,the Capri Mark II was introduced. After 1.2 million cars sold, and with the1973 oil crisis, Ford chose to make the new car more suited to everyday driving with a shorter bonnet and a larger cabin.

Although it was mechanically like the Capri Mark I, the Capri Mark II had a revised, larger body and a more modern dashboard and a smaller steering wheel. The Capri still maintained the large rectangular headlights, which became the easiest way to distinguish between a Mark II and a Mark III. Larger front disc brakes and a standardalternatorfinished the list of modifications.

In October 1976, the only UK plant producing Capris, Ford'sHalewoodplant stopped production, and all production of the Capri was moved to theColognefactory in Germany.

You will not see one of these Cologne Capris come to auction very often. A true barn-find, this Capri was last inspected in 2001 (see windshield sticker) and has been stored in the same barn ever since. Recently removed and gone through, this 1974 Mercury (Ford) Capri runs and drives very well.

NOTE: IT IS MY RECOMMENDATION THAT THE NEW OWNER HAVE THE CAPRI TRANSPORTED UNTIL THE REAR BRAKES AND TIRES ARE ADDRESSED.

IT IS ALSO MY RECOMMENDATION THAT PRIOR TO BIDDING, PROSPECTIVE BUYERS SHOULD VIEW THE ADDITIONAL PHOTOS AND VIDEO THAT I HAVE BY SIMPLY REQUESTING TO SEE THEM.

Areas that have been addressed

· Front Brakes

· Front rotors

· Front calipers

· Front brake hoses

· Coolant flush

· Oil change

· Transmission fluid changed

· New plugs

· New clutch

· New pressure plate

· New throw-out baring

· New pilot bearing

· New/remanufactured starter

This Capri was built in Cologne Germany and has a 4-speed transmission linked to an 1800 V6 engine. This Capri is mostly original from front to back with one repaint back to Yellow. It also has all the original body panels with hardly any rust. The vin number and engine code letters are stamped on the block. The carburetor also appears to be the original Motorcraft and still retains the correct metal carburetor ID tag.

All exterior lights and signals are in working order apart from the brake lights (maybe due to rear brakes). All exterior glass is in good condition with no cracks.

The interior upholstery is particularly good apart from a rip in the driver’s seat bottom.

The Capri retains five original rims to include the trunk spare. The trunk also has the original jack assembly.

The undercarriage is particularly good with scaley surface rust from sitting. The photos appear to show rust, but the undercarriage is very clean apart from the exhaust that should be replaced at some point.

Areas that still need to be addressed

· Rear brakes need to be bled and looked at for safety and functionality.

· Coolant valve

· Horn (not working)

· Exhaust (at some point)

· Belts and hoses (at some point)

· Tires (should be replaced for safety)

· Front seats do not move forward or back

· The driver’s door appears to have an interior spring missing that returns the door closer.

Exterior: This 1974 Ford (Mercury) Capri 2800 was repainted to Yellow at some point prior to 2001. The overall paint condition is considered good. There are a few small scratches and areas that are blistering. The trim is in good condition as well as the glass. The door handles and the side mirrors are also in good condition. Marker lights, taillights and bezels are in good condition. All rims are considered in good condition. The tires are old and need to be replaced causing the Capri to shake during road trips.

The following areas are functional:

· Headlights

· Taillights

· Blinkers front and rear

· Back-up lights

· Wipers

· Plate light

The following areas are not functional:

· Brake lights

· Emergency brake

Interior: The interior is in good original condition. There is a rip in the driver’s seat bottom as seen in the interior photos. No rips or cracks in the dash. The headliner looks to be in good condition. Visors should be replaced. All factory belts are present and in good condition. All gauges are working. The emergency brake is not working but is probably related to the rear brake issue.

The following interior areas are functional:

· Radio

· Interior Lights

· Speedometer

· Tachometer

· Oil Pressure Gauge

· Temperature Gauge

· Alternator Gauge

· Fuel Gauge.

The following interior areas are not functional:

· Heater (Needs new engine compartment heater valve)

· Cigarette lighter

· Seat adjusters (The seats need to be removed and the seat tracks cleaned and lubricated)

Engine: The engine starts and runs with no major issues. It appears to still have most of the original engine components. The overall look is OK but could be more detailed.

Transmission: The factory’s original 4-speed transmission functions as it should. There are no funny noises, and the transmission shifts up and down through the gears with no issues.

Trunk: The trunk area is in good condition. The original spare tire and jack assembly are present. The trunk lift opens and closes with no issues.

Undercarriage: The undercarriage is better than the photos depict. There is very minimal rust and the exhaust system (needs to be replaced at some point) seems to make the undercarriage look worse than it is. I see no signs of panel rust through or frame issues.
