Description:

1956 Mercedes-Benz 220 Ponton

Hello!
Here we have my grandfathers 1956 Mercedes Benz 220 Ponton. He has owned the Mercedes since 1957. He is the second owner of the car. He bought the Mercedes from one of his friends that was in need of financial help back in 1956 so he bought this Mercedes from him. The Mercedes is all original and has approximately 67,000 original miles. Car was never repainted and still retains its original paint. The interior is in need of restoration but is all original. Still even has the dealer installed coco mats and trunk mat as well. The original seat belts are present and so is the original radio. The wooden dashboard is in great shape and all the wood trim on all 4 doors is in great shape also. The steering wheel is crack free and in great shape. I’ve seen steering wheels listed on eBay for over $1000. He also has 5 keys for the Mercedes. One of them is for the locking gas door. The Mercedes has an inline 6 cylinder engine with a single barrel Solex carburetor. It has a manual column shift transmission. The Mercedes last ran in June of 2022. One of the fuel lines dried out and sprung a leak in the engine bay so my grandfather parked it where it sits today and never got a chance to repair it. Car has been sitting for over a year now but it won't take much to get it running again. I also have a fairly new 6 volt battery for the car. The car will also need a new exhaust. The one on the car is rusted and has seen better days. The undercarriage of the the car is solid. It does have surface rust but that is to be expected on a car that is over 60 years old. The rear quarter panels are solid and also the rear shock towers inside the trunk. The hood and trunk lid are solid. The bumpers have some surface rust but nothing crazy. The original amber lens fog lights are present and so are the stainless steel wiper arms. The front grille does need some straightening in some areas but the chrome on the grille still has that original shine. The passenger front signal lens is missing in the pictures but I have it and it is in mint condition. The drivers side rear taillight lens is missing and the other one is cracked. I did price out a used set of lenses for $150 if new owner chooses to go that route. The car does have its share of rust on the bottoms of all 4 doors. This is a common rust area on these cars. The step boards/side skirts are present and solid. All glass is present and all original. The tires are old but still hold air. All 4 original hub caps are present. This Mercedes has provided my grandfather years of fun. He has told me stories about his road trips with the Mercedes from Niagra Falls to the Florida Keys. The Mercedes never left him stranded on the side of the road. He has traveled with the Mercedes up and down the east coast many times. It's sad to see the car go and I can't keep it because I have allot of cars myself. Whoever buys this car will not be disappointed. It is all original and if restored correctly will bring the new owner a very high return. A 1958 Mercedes 220s with an older restoration just sold on Hagerty auctions for close to $30,000. The car is being sold in "AS-IS" condition. The $500 deposit is not refundable. Low ballers and scammers take a hike! I've heard it all before. I can assist with transportation but at new owners expense. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to message me here or you can call or text me at 5I6 398 I2O4. Thanks for looking and happy bidding!!!
