Description:
1968 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series Fin Tail
In the 60's AMG started as a tuning company preparing Mercedes cars to participate in European Races. Soon clients asked AMG to tune a Mercedes to deliver a better performance on the streets. AMG opted for the 200's series that is shorter and lighter compared to the more luxurious S class and fitted special wheels besides technical upgrades. This was the first ever series AMG offered for street use and the story is featured in the AMG 45 Book. From my personal collection this Mercedes 230 Fin Tail, AMG style similar to the car in display at Museum in Germany. My car has the original 2.3 engine and automatic 4 speed transmission, presently shows 37,700 original miles. Barn Find in 2013 (see photos) with title confirming authentic mileage, no accidents, no rust or significant repairs, no restoration, untouched original condition detailed and maintained to highest standards. Rare ArcticAir fitted in trunk air conditioning, original perfect MB TEX interior. New door and trunk seals, rubbers, carpet and ceiling replaced with Mercedes OEM standards. Note the little dents on bumpers and fender. The former owner had the car stored for decades and a few dents were caused by a rack that fall on the car. I did't fixed it not to touch the paint see pictures 11, 12. I replaced the steering wheelwith an original Mercedes Ivory color OEM spec part. Over $15,000 spend in mechanical services performed to allow daily drive with no problems. Drives, runs, shifts and brakes well, no oil leaks, or issues. Recently replaced the automatic transmission bushings. I have the factory Mercedes Production Data Card, Manual, and brochure.I mounted correct Becker Europa Radio that was missing but it is not working. UNRESTORED in great original condition, it was never re-painted. It shows the signs of 50 years of story, careful use, storage and professional detailing bringing back and preserving original splendor.
