Description:

1982 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series

This is a 1982 Mercedes 300CD W123 Turbo Diesel with only 132,384 miles. This car has one of the quietest diesel engines, I have ever heard. Like all of these older diesel's it has a rather small oil leak, seems pretty common. I will start with the negatives. The paint is weak, from 15-20 feet it looks good. Upon close inspection you can see that it was an inexpensive re-paint. It appears to have had only one re-paint, in it's original black. The body is solid with a few small dings and scratches here and there consistent with age. I have tried to picture these imperfections. The tires are shot, dry rotted from the desert heat. You will need new tires. The car starts up fine and sounds great but it takes three-four attempts. The transmission is solid, but it does have some slight issues with the vacuum creating slightly slow shifting between first and second gear. I have ordered the correct orifice which should correct this issue. I will include the new orifice with purchase. This is minor and common issue with these diesels but I wanted to disclose this. The power locks are not working, this is connected to the transmission vacuum. The key lock cylinder on the drivers door is missing. The toggle switch for the outside mirrors located on the console is also missing. The car can be driven and cruises nicely at 80 mph. Some of the plastics inside the interior will need replacement, if you are a purist. There is a plate on the inside of drivers side rear view mirror. The plate is missing, I have ordered a new one and it will be included with purchase. The dash board has a few cracks and some of the wooden trim on the console is bad from the desert sun. I have tried to picture all of these imperfections. The AC is missing the belt, the pump is not frozen. The inside headliner piece that attaches to the sunroof is in the trunk. There are some very small surface rust bubbles under the paint where it drains at the molding. The original cyclone wheels have been switched to a standard wheel. This car has no rot! The original radio is not working.
Now the good stuff, low mileage at only 132,384. All power windows work well. The power sunroof works, The interior such as the seats, headliner and door panels are pretty nice. The carpet is good. The steering wheel is not all beat up. No rot and I would say no accidents. It's one of 6000 300CD Turbo Diesels imported into the U.S. between 1981 and 1985. This car is a collectible and if perfect cosmetically would bring $15,000 or maybe more. This car is affordable for someone that can take care of the cosmetics . The body is actually pretty straight. This car can be driven as-is but I would transport it to it's new home until some of the issues are addressed. This is a great car that just needs some cosmetic love. Again from 15-20 feet it looks very good, I guess it's all about how nice of a driver you want?
