Every once in a while I get an opportunity to sell an amazing collector car, one that is just getting ready to take off in value. These 560SL’s from the late 80’s are just that kind of future collectable. They were built back in the “traditional” era of Mercedes Benz, before all the computer driven systems were put in place. These cars from this era will be on the road long after the computer cars lose their support and end up in the salvage yard with all the old computers we throw away.

This car is being sold for a friend. My background with classic automobiles extends for over 40 years. I have built and restored many Corvettes and Porsches and am a member of numerous car clubs including PCA & NCRS. I have judged at various concour events in and around Southern CA. This is a stellar, turn-key automobile at the highest-level of restoration. This is a solid #1 condition vehicle that needs nothing and runs perfectly.

This is a One Owner Southern CA, US Marine/Engineer Owned Mercedes Benz. He is what I would classify as a car “freak” and a master at keeping a car maintained to perfection. This car does not look like it has ever spent a day of its life out in the light. He bought this Mercedes-Benz from Mission Viejo Imports Mercedes Benz in 1987. Everyday and night of its life has been spent in a garage; very little time out in the sun. He even covered it in the garage!!

The Exterior, Interior, Wheels and Under the Hood all look absolutely Brand New. There are no dings to this gorgeous automobile and zero signs of repaint to any panels. This vehicle is in absolutely flawless condition and needs nothing. There is an extensive book of records proving the mileage to be accurate.

Body & Paint

The Body is simply a 10, not one flaw on it anywhere. I cannot find one ding or one scratch on this vehicle. The Paint is a 9.9 out of 10. Scratch that.. it is a 10. Every panel is flawless and original and has NEVER had any paint or body repair to the body. The factory original light orange peel matches from panel to panel all the way around the car. You simply will not find a body and paint as perfect as this car. It is almost impossible for me to imagine a car that has lived 30 years on this planet and not been damaged at least once, but it is not a stretch as the owner never used the car as a daily driver. This was simply a weekend, special occasion car, mostly driven by his wife.

The Chrome as well the Exterior Rubber and Trim is also a 10. The Chrome Factory Wheels are a 9.8 out of 10 and have no abrasions. The Glass is all original to the car and never been replaced.

Interior

The interioron this classic roadster is simply as nice as it gets, I would rate it a 9.5 out of 10. The carpets, mats, seats, dash, wood and door panels are all immaculate. This is as nice as it gets. You would think it was brand new. The seats are firm and comfortable, like new.

Drive-Train

The mechanics on this car are perfect and the engine is smooth and responsive just like the day it was bought. They have continued to drive the car on a regular basis; starting it and driving it occasionally to keep it in top working order. The transmission shifts like it is brand new. The car drives down the road straight and true with no shimmy’s, rattles or problems of any sort. Driving these SL’s from this era is truly fun as they have that wonderful German road feel to them. The ride quality is superb as well it handles like a sports car should.

Undercarriage

The Undercarriage is immaculate for a car that is now 30 years old, a true testament to a Southern California driven life. There are no signs of rust or leaks of any kind. All the suspension parts are like new and work to Mercedes specs. All the original undercoating and painted parts are as they came from the factory.

The radio works, the windows work perfectly, the wipers, the cruise control and every single system in this car works like the day it came out of the factory. The AC blows cold.

Look through some of the recent records and you will see within the last couple of miles the AC was evacuated and recharged, new front brakes, filters, oil, new seals in hard-top, front-end alignment, etc. The tires are like new Michelins MXV4’s and appear to have 90% + tread remaining. This vehicle has been maintained to a very high standard by people that did not need to cut corners.

The car is turnkey, it needs nothing and is ready to go.

If you are looking for one of the finest examples on the planet from the final classic era of Mercedes Benz SL’s, you just found it. These vehicles are just starting to be fully recognized for their quality and wonderful ride characteristics and have a long way to go in collector value.

The 560SL is THE ONE to own as it is the most elegant and reliable of the SL series, before and aft.
