Description:

1977 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series

Sadly parting with my 240D. This car has served as my backup vehicle while I was working on my 300D. It proved to be a strong little vehicle. I drove it back and fourth to work ~100 miles rt for months. I do not know the history of this vehicle but from what I can it's been treated rather well - Sold As-Is - I've tried to outline the issues I have seen to the best of my abilities in the description below. Since I've had it I've done some minor work such as oil/filter change, air filter, fuel filter change. I've just replaced the master and slave cylinder for the manual transmission. Yes that's right, a MANUAL w123! Believe me, this is a huge benefit. The vehicle is less slow sporting this transmission and more fuel efficient.
The good:
4-speed Manual Transmission
This is an amazingly simple vehicle and thus has been very reliable. It starts well and shuts off well (the vacuum is strong).Paint is in pretty good condition and looks to be original.
Major problems:
  • Motor Oil Consumption (unknown reason)
  • Missing AC Compressor/drier (although this is actually probably a good opportunity to put in a better system than the one it was originally equipped with)

Minor Problems:
  • Fuel / Temperature Gauge - Non Functional
  • Dash Clock not functioning / Control panel lights out. (Will supply a set of bulbs)
  • Needs new hazard relay for flashers/blinker
  • Needs new low beam headlight
  • New tires are recommended
  • Some paint chips
  • The interior, while okay and still attractive, could use a good detail, some grunge is present.
  • Cracked dashboard/some broken interior items such as broken door pocket, backseat magazine net
  • Missing trunk lock (however, truck is accessible by pushbutton through hole where lock was located)
  • Door locks do not fully function properly due to vacuum issue. - Keep in mind the vacuum functions perfectly for engine turn-off.
  • Stereo is non operational.
  • I would recommend a valve adjustment, cold idle especially is a little rough.
  • Door seals
