This is my personal collector’s car in excellent condition with mostly new parts and only a few remaining items needed to complete.I have spent over $60,000 restoring everything and will provide all of the receipts, including the original bill of sale from the dealer. This is the car I intended to keep forever. However I have become too busy to complete this project so have decided to pass this beauty to another collector to complete the few remaining items.
HISTORY:
She was sold new in Stockholm Sweden in 1970 and was owned and operated by the same gentleman in Sweden and France until the mid 1980’s when the owner moved to the USA and driven daily until 2001. She was then left in a Mercedes Benz repair shop and forgotten in time.
I found her in 2006 under a tarp covered with dust, sitting on deflated air bags, and I fell in love. She was perfect – no rust, and mechanically mostly intact – just waiting for someone to bring her back to life.
This car was only produced for a few years in the early 70s and was for a long time the ultimate wolf in sheeps clothing. This car was a luxury version of the common 280SE sedan – but they stuffed a monster 6.3 liter V8 from the famous 600SEL Pullman limousine in it, and a sophisticated air suspension system made this car a street legal hot rod: Performance of a very fast sports car stuffed into a classic sedan – Incredible! Check out videos on YouTube, there are many.
So I began the restoration and no expense was spared. I had the engine completely rebuilt by an old German Mercedes Benz mechanic, with all parts bought directly from Mercedes Old Timer Center in Los Angeles (all documented and with receipts). We replaced all connecting rod and main bearings, timing chain and gears, the engine block was honed (but had little or no wear), pistons were perfect but all rings were replaced, cylinder heads were completely rebuilt with new valves, guides, seals, and machined to tolerances. The Bosch mechanical fuel injection was completely rebuilt and bench tested by a reputable Bosch dealer (again all documented). All fuel injectors were replaced with N.O.S, and all intake manifolds were polished to a high gloss. This engine is a beautiful work of art!
The suspension system was completely rebuilt with N.O.S. airbags (expensive wow!), new brake rotorsand pads and rebuilt calipers. All rubber bushings in front and rear end replaced with N.O.S. drive shaft U joints replaced. Brand new never used Michelin tires all around.
Fuel tank replaced with N.O.S. She needs a new fuel pump to be complete. I have the old one but we put a Holley pump on her to get started which is fine.
The body was super straight but was in need of a repaint. I chose a very nice time and model correct Mercedes beige and it has suffered some over the years in and out of various shops. I suggest a wet sand and buffing plus clear coat. All of the chrome is perfect, rust free, and super straight. All tail and head light lenses clear – no cracks and in perfect condition.
The interior was very clean but worn so I went with a complete set of dark blue leather seats and all new carpeting from GAH in Los Angeles so this interior could have come out of the factory yesterday! Al l the wood came out and was sent to a reputable restoration shop in New Hampshire that does mostly Jaguars, Rolls Royce and other super expensive wood restoration jobs – it’s beautiful. All gauges were restored by the most reputable shop in the USA based in Palo Alto California – like new! I have the original steering wheel which will come with the car. I’m keeping the wood wheel that is in the pictures.
You will need an original air pump as well since the old one was gone when I found her and the exhaust system from the muffler back is missing.
All receipts for the restoration come with the car. Payment via paypal or bank transfer. Pickup/viewingin Pompano Beach, Florida. You may opt to ship the car anywhere at your expense. You can email for questions. You may also contact me anytime at +1 954-830-3320 – Peter Styren.
Please understand that this car, though in excellent rebuilt condition, is not in driving condition until the restoration is completed.
