Detailed Photo Album:Mercedes-Benz 190 SLUp for auction today is a 1961 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL. This car is being auctioned by a private seller and is located in Southern Ontario, Canada. This is a 3 owner car. The original was a family from Germany. The second owner was a man from Toronto. The current owner purchased it off of them in the mid 1970's. I have taken plenty of pictures for any prospective buyer to inspect. Also, I uploaded the above video to youtube.
Here is my inspection and description of the car, highlighting all aspects of this classic vehicle:
Body: Very good condition. No rust spots. No Dents. The car has been stored under a car cover and in a garage since 1989. I took detailed photographs of all the chipped paint areas that I was able to find. There is an family emblem/insignia from the first ever owners attached to the trunk. As well, the left rear tail light cover is broken.
Bumpers and Chrome: The front bumper came out in amazing shape after some chrome polish was applied and buffed. The front bumper also has two additional holes for a pair of Lucas accessory lights that were installed on the car. The rear bumper will need to be re-chromed. The chrome lines on the car are all in very nice shape. There are some markings on the chrome below the window on the drivers side door.
Engine: It was running when the car was put away in 1989. An attempt to start it a few years ago was not successful. A less than able mechanic looked at it and left the spark plugs out, air filter loose, etc. That is the way the engine still sits today.
Undercarriage/Frame: Frame is in great condition. Original paint is still protecting the frame in some areas. Exhaust is in good condition. Rear muffler is rotted out.
Interior: Dash is in very nice shape. As well as the wheel and gauges. Seats and carpeting will need to be re-done. An attempt to remove the rubber floor covers went awry due to the now extremely brittle 55 year old rubber. The original floor mats are included but some are beyond repair. Again, a family insignia has been attached to the dash.
Trunk: Like it just came from the showroom floor. The trunk is in immaculate condition.
Leather Soft Top: Good condition. There is one small hole that is detailed in the photos. About the size of a quarter. There is also a small red stain above the passenger side that could possibly be removed or buffed out. The rear window is faded and will likely need replacing. Leather cover that is attached when the roof is down is included and is in good shape.
Hard Top: This in great condition. No dents. Paint is in nice shape but has faded a bit. One chip that is detailed in the photos. Interior roof has also faded through the years.
Tires and Rims: The rims are in pristine condition. Comes with spare in the trunk. All original hubcaps are included as well, although they will need to be repainted. The tires will need to be replaced.
Payment and Shipping: Payment will be completed in U.S. funds. Payment can be completed in Cashiers Check or Wire Transfer. In addition, Cash can be paid in person at a local bank. Must be paid in full before delivery or pick-up. Buyer will have to arrange for shipping in most circumstances.
