The Jeep is a very clean, numbers matching, accident-free, solid cancer-free chassis candidate for restoration! This Commando is in its original condition. This is a numbers matching car, original 225 straight-6 engine, original 3-speed manual transmission, & rear-end. Slightly larger than the CJ, the Jeepster Commando offered more cargo space on a longer wheelbase.

Without further adieu, let’s get into the condition of your next investment.

Running Condition

The Jeep has its original & desired Straight 6cyl motor, it was parked and stored in a garage for many years and not driven. I decided to take it over to my mechanic and have them drain all fluids, blow out all the lines, get a fresh oil change, & compression test. We rebuilt the carburetor & fired up and ran great the last couple weeks. The car has been acting up and it starts and runs when it wants to and I can’t find anyone in the area who will get this jeep in a shop in a timely manner so I’m deciding to sell it as is. There will be no promises, but if I find someone who can dial it in just right before the end of the auction, I will.

This will be a good candidate for a daily driver once carburetor is gone through.

Paint & Body

The Avocado Green paint is believed to be the original paint color. The body is super straight, no major dents, or any indication of any Bondo or body filler on this full metal body. There is no clear coat peeling or flaking. A fresh clear coat will give a nice patina look or you can respray the entire truck. The car still has all of its original body panels. There is no major rust anywhere on this car.

Interior

The seats are original to the Jeep still in the original foam & vinyl/leather. The seats will need to be recovered, but the foundation for the foam and wrapping are there enough for an upholstery shop to get the exact measurements needed. The dash is color matched to the Avocado Green paint. The small black padded dash top should also be redone, but without exception a very good foundation for reupholstery. Simple toggles and an even simpler gauge cluster sits in a metal insert within the green metal field.

Glass & Chrome

All of the glass appears to be in good condition with no cracks. The rubber seals appear to be intact but will need to be replaced if a restoration is done. The chrome will shine well and look good with patina after a good cut & polish.

Undercarriage

The frame on the Jeep is perfect and original. There is no rust or cancer anywhere, no patchwork or repair work that has been done to the frame. The cargo compartment is mostly rust free, nothing serious. There is no aftermarket undercoating on the underside or in the cargo compartment. This is a very solid and original Jeep with some TLC work here and there this will be a very presentable Jeep.
