Description:

1988 Jeep Comanche

This truck is a standout. You need an appreciation for patina to own this truck. And this isn’t a good choice if you’re annoyed when people go out of their way to compliment your transportation choices. This 2.5L, 5-speed manual transmission truck has 33” tall Super Swamper Mud tires. The truck is not lifted but the fenders were trimmed a little, just enough to prevent rubbing. The axle was re-geared to 4.10:1 to compensate for the taller tires so the speedometer reads accurately. The engine was recently replaced with a rebuild from Titan Engines and it includes an upgraded camshaft and a rebalanced rotating assembly. It is not fast or powerful by today’s standards but it is fun to drive. The axle was upgraded to a selectable locking / limited slip differential (Auburn Gear Select-A-Lock) when I changed the gear ratio. This means the truck gets around in the mud and snow just fine without four-wheel drive. The truck is solid, there are no rust holes, just patina (original paint). It came from Florida and must of spent a lot of time in the sun.I bought it as a project.I’d planed to swap out the drivetrain for a V8.But, once I got it running, I wondered how it would look with my spare set of 33” tires and wheels (from a 2016 Rubicon, new spare included). At that point I fell in love with the vibe and how well it drove. The truck had close to 300k on it, so it deserved the rebuilt engine.I upgraded the 4-speed to a rebuilt 5-speed at the same time.I replaced the fuel tank, fuel pump and fuel injector. There is new carpeting, headliner and seat covering as well.So this thing is practically new despite it being 36 years old.I hate to sell it but I have a F350 on order and only room for one pickup.
