Description:

1984 Jeep CJ

Rare, clean Jeep CJ-7. Lifted with V8 Engine and more...

Runs great!

This CJ7 has been a dream and a joy to own for the past several years.

It has the big, AMC 660 V8 engine swap. Also includes hard top with full steel doors and a bikini top. It’s ready to turn the key and enjoy the summer.

Since I bought it in 2018, it has been very well taken care and has not been driven hard. (I've only put 12,000 miles on it since 2018).

There’s about 30,000+ miles on the engine (based on what I know of the swap and rebuild), and 161k on the odometer.

It has been mostly “frame on restored / rebuilt" over the years (with just about everything mechanical having been rebuilt or replaced but without taking the body off).

No leaks or mechanical issues.

There are some chips and rust spots around the exterior paint, so it's not up to showroom standards, as it still has the original paint.

Happy to answer any questions you have.

It was in good shape when I bought it 7 years ago, and since then I’ve put another $15,000+ into it on updates and more.

I’ve kept up on all the maintenance over the years: oil and fluid changes, plus:

  • brakes
  • alignment
  • Yellow Top battery
  • new power steering pump
  • U-Joints
  • valve covers and valve cover gaskets
  • transmission and transfer case flushed and resealed with new gaskets
Regarding the paint chips and rust spots on the body

I believe it's still the original paint on the body and the hard top. I've added photos to the listing to point out the rust spots. And here is a walk around video I recorded with more info and context for the paint chips around the outside of the Jeep.

Quirks and needed fixes

As mentioned, mechanically it's in fantastic shape. But it's not showroom quality. Here are all the quirks I know about:

  • Gas gauge is off by 1/4 tank. When you fill up the 12 gallon tank, it shows as being 3/4 full. Then, when it shows at empty, you still have about 1/4 tank of gas.
  • There is no horn.
  • No hookup or reservoir for the windshield washers.
  • The rear break lights don't have any white reverse lights wired to them.
  • There is no key to lock for the doors or rear hardtop window.
