Description:

1968 Jeep CJ

OMG, how much do I hate having to sell this... but I'm building a house and need the money more than I need the fun. And it IS fun. I used to have a 1943 GPW that I had to sell after being laid off about 15 years ago and I missed it the very next day. Then I found this one. Of course I had to 'militarize' it. Military wheels and tires. Military windshield., Military top bows and canvas winter top. And, of course, ever since owning my GPW I have loved the WWII shade of olive drab paint.. #33070. I removed the windshield wiper motors and replaced them with a hand crank wiper. The engine, a "Hurricane" 4 cyl. has half the valves in the block and the other half in the head. It was rebuilt about 3000 miles ago.New carburetor, generator has been replaced with an alternator. The gauges don't all work. Speedometer started making noise so I undid the cable. Voltmeter works. Gas gauge doesn't but there's a stick to check fuel depth. Brakes are new, new wheel cylinders, master cylinder. New winter top has plastic window in back and the snaps for adding side curtains and doors. The trailer has military wheels and tires and new wheel bearings. The pintle ring has been replaced with a standard trailer hitch. The corner handles were cut off and a tail gate installed. Since this is a project not yet completed, there are things I had intended to do but have not yet done like finding some M38A1 seats (although the CJ5 seats are more comfortable). Plus someone a long time ago did some creative bondo work on a front fender/cowl that peeled off and left a ridge that I've never got around to fixing. It doesn't look so bad under the O.D. paint though. I don't think it shows in the pics. I also have service manuals for both the jeep and the trailer. Also many spare parts, the old generator, wiper motors, etc. and some new parts I've never gotten around to putting on. This is a runner and driver and tons of fun. I'll not drive it while the auction is on, although it will be in this week's Veteran's Day Parade.
