1965 Ford Mustang fastback GT350 tribute
G.T.350 Tribute
1965 Mustang 2+2 fastback Shelby G.T.350 Tribute
65k original miles. The car originally came from California and the past owner did the Shelby transformation. Wimbledon White with LeMans stripes. He planned to track the car or did. I've had this car at over 100mph but it's old, not the best idea off a track. I'm parting with it so someone can enjoy as-is or take it to the next level. I regret parting with it but things came up. What makes this tribute unique from others is the original Interior Décor Group package/Deluxe/Pony interior that goes perfect with the exterior color scheme. The interior is all original from what I can tell. It has a fold-down rear seat. Original Ford deluxe seat belts. The driver's side door has some chips at the back edge that are seen when door is open. There are some scuffs at the interior top from I guess a wrist bracelet or watch. Someone enjoyed cruising in CA with their arm there. The car is a cruiser and gets lots of attention.
Transmission is a modified C-4 with B&M shift kit, deep pan, and ratchet shifter.
Special ordered Holman Moody mahogany shift knob.
There is a cooler visible below the front bumper.
Rear is 8†2.80 gears.
Under dash gauges are Autometer brand for Water temperature, Oil pressure, and Transmission temperature.
Car has a secret anti-theft fuel shutoff valve with key in the floor.
The original AM radio is currently not working. It does not get power so may be a fuse. The antenna is on the rear quarter and the antenna is currently removed and stored. I leave it off. You would not hear the radio anyway with the loud exhaust. Aftermarket center console lifts off. Shelby style side exhaust just forward of rear wheels. One side has pinholes about a foot from end. It has gas shocks, a larger front sway bar and aftermarket rear stabilizer bar. There are some sort of heavy duty mufflers behind the headers but the car is quite loud.
Engine:
Modified 289. I don’t know entire history since the owner that did the work had passed on prior to purchase by me and previous owner. Edelbrock intake, Holley carb, headers, and it sounds like it has a racing cam. It starts every time and is a blast to drive. Previous owner ported and polished the heads. He removed the vacuum advance from the MSD distributor and disabled the secondaries of the Holley. It is currently running as 2 barrel. It was fast enough for me. I did not get around to setting it back to full capacity advance and carb. Prior to that owner it was in California and was on a track. It does not have the control arm Shelby drop though. The car really needs to be lowered to be used like that. The engine has a huge fuel filter. There is a fuel pressure gauge. The car has an electric fuel pump. The engine oil filter is visible below the front bumper. An aftermarket Cobra oval type aircleaner is included but some work to hold it down better. It vibrates loose. The dash pad gauge pod has a Sun tach and a vacuum gauge. The tach works and then stops..an intermittent connection somewhere. Atop the dash is a drag racing type of light for low oil warning. The battery is less than a year old and the tray was replaced with a '67 one with the improved overtop clamp. The oil pan seems to be a B&M also. It is wet and may need a new gasket. The car will need a new transmission gasket.
The car has factory disc brakes. The proportioning valve was replaced with a non-Ford.
Power steering is stock 1965 Ford.
The hood is the original Ford steel with functioning Shelby scoop. There is a crack, see photo. Underside of hood has rough texture undercoating. They painted the trunk flat black as well as the bottom of the quarter panels. Most of the floor pan is undercoat. All of the metal on this car is original from what I can tell. The quarters are perfect and have the drain plugs. The only true issue on the body is the passenger side door. It has some bubbling in the paint in the lower corner...so that will need attention at a future date. The '66 side scoops are non-functional. The hood pins are not in the correct location as per Shelby spec. This car has them at the top of radiator support. The rear tail lamp panel has a small Shelby button attached there to cover a punched hole from a previous alarm key that was removed. It is included.
The door warranty plate or door tag is a reproduction. All codes are exactly as it was originally. The original is all scraped up and included in sale.
Halogen headlamps.
California black license plate is included with sale. Extra parts included. About 6 NJ show trophies are included. A set of new front aftermarket coil springs are included to lower the front.
The car was present at the 50th Anniversary event by Ford at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park Queens NYC in 2014, at the 1964-1965 World's Fair location, birthplace of the Mustang.
