    1956 Ford F-100 HISTORY

    Many Ford F-100 enthusiasts believe the F100 was at its best by 1956. Some of the changes that improved the appearance of the '56 vs the previous 1953-1955 include: a the elimination of the slanted front windshield pillars from 53-55 F100 in favor of a more refined wrap around windshield on the 56 F100. Often referred to as the "slant cabs”, the earlier F-100's had a windshield and front cab pillars that slant up to the roof. The '56 cab design change led to all kinds of additional changes. 1953-55 slant cab trucks also had a triangle shaped vent window to match the slant. In 1956, F100 models have a more rectangular shaped vent window. Of course the door windows and division bars are different from slant cab models as well. The front grille & parking light assemblies are also unique to 56 models with headlights sunken into the buckets on the grille, and '56 F100 air deflectors having a dished out area for the headlight bucket to have room. Inside, the dash gauge area became arched on the '56 F100, rather than flat as on 53-55 models. Another significant change was a revised and new 12 volt electrical system, and the elimination of vacuum in favor of an electric wiper system. Rear tail lights were the shield type. There were a number of engine options including the basic 223 c.i. straight 6 cylinder, and various 272c.i. V8's offered with 2bbl. & 4 bbl. carburetion.

    THIS PARTICULAR 1956 F-100

    This lovely 1956 Ford F-100 is finished in its factory produced color of "Meadow Green, "? with a period correct color coordinated dark brown set. The combination is beautiful and very reminiscent of the era. The F-100 is not only represents a desirable year, but trucks in original, unmodified condition are becoming increasingly difficult to find. The truck retains its factory correct 3-Speed "three on the tree, "? a "Y" block 2bbl V8, and what appears to be all original sheet metal. As the old saying goes, "You can restore a truck over and over again, but it is only original once." While this truck has had some cosmetic "freshening" and has been mechanically rebuilt over the years, it presents as a very nice original example down to the correct exterior trim, dog dish hubcaps, original gauges & steering wheel, and a large number of original Ford components.

    VIN# Decodes as follows: F10V6N274468

    F10 = Regular F-100V = 272 cid V8

    6 =Model Year (1956)

    N = Assembly Plant (Norfolk)

    274468 = Production Run #

    Additional information shown on the VIN plate (refer to photos to view the VIN plate)

    3 = 3-Speed

    U = Meadow Green

    Rear End 3; 73/1

    CONDITION - 1956 FORD F-100

    As reported by the previous owner, the F-100 was restored approximately 10-12 years ago with the body being removed the frame, a complete respray of the cab and bed in the original "Meadow Green, interior upgrades, and a rebuild of mechanical components. While the '56 represents an older restoration, it has held up very well, and reflects the care that was taken to maintain its original configuration while enhancing its cosmetic condition and ensuring that it was sold mechanically. As inspection of the undercarriage (refer to extensive photos) supports that the F-100 is very clean with a straight, rust free chassis, no rust-through, rot, or damage. In fact, the underside has the appearance of the truck being used largely in dry weather as a weekend vehicle and for attending the occasional local car show.

    The exterior shows very well including factory original trim, emblems, and body panels. Door panel fit is very good with good gaps for the era, solidly closing doors, and damage free glass. The factory produced "Meadow Green" paint is in very nice condition with only minor imperfections, none of which detract from the appearance, charm, and original appearance of the truck. Rust prone exterior areas like running boards, lower fenders, roof, and other vulnerable areas are free from rust. The glass is excellent and the windows operate easily. Exterior lenses are in good condition and the lighting systems including turn signals, headlights, and brake lights have recently been inspected and are all fully functional.

    The interior is equally as nice with a stock bench seat, finished in a dark brown that contrasts nicely to the period and factory correct exterior. The dash and door panels are painted black and are fitted with original hardware. The steering wheel is stock with a functional horn, gauges are original and unrestored. There is no radio but the stock heater is in place. The floors are covered with a period correct rubber mat with sound deadening underneath to eliminate some road noise. The interior light is working and operated by a toggle switch near the steering wheel. The inner roof is painted black and devoid of a headliner.

    Mechanically, the truck is very strong. Even when sitting for extended periods of time, it fires up immediately and runs smoothly. The dual exhaust gives it a pleasing "rumble" that is not excessive. The "Y" block 272 cid provides considerably improved performance over entry level 6 cylinder offered by Ford in 1956 and the VIN tag supports that this truck was produced with a V8 & 3-Speed on the column. In keeping with the goal of original appearance/configuration, the stock "3 on the tree" has been retained. Actually, the truck is great fun to drive with a clutch that is free from chatter or noise, smooth shifting, and no unusual drive-line noise. The engine sounds great, does not leak excessive fluids, smoke, or exhibit any drivability issues. The engine was reportedly rebuilt but details are not available. The F-100 recently had the benefit of brake work including a complete inspection and replacement of front drums, adjustment, bled, and replacement of needed parts. The electrical system was also checked to ensure a functionality of lights and repairs completed. A new battery was added. The truck rides on factory steel wheels with "dog dish" hubcaps. Tires are 225/75R15" Mud & Snow whitewalls on all corners showing good, even tread.

    The F-100 retains its stock ride hide and has the appearance of never being modified. Bumpers and supports are clean, straight and rust free as are the front and rear areas of the F-100. The engine compartment is very clean with no signs of damage to the core support, inner fenders, or other areas. It is free from rust and the engine color is fresh suggesting a relatively recent rebuild.

    This truck represents a very honest, nicely restored truck that can be enjoyed "As-Is." Unlike some farm trucks or those that have seen heavy, commercial use, this example appears to have led an easy life and is not "needy" like so many other offerings in the marketplace today. Vintage pick-up trucks have become increasingly desirable and this 1956 F-100 is one of the ore sought after mid-60's examples as a one year only body style. Finally, where else are you going to find an unmodified, stock configured, solid, rust free F-100 that includes a matching 1956, numbers matching green "American" vintage bike (details below)? What a great combination!!

    DETAILS 1956 SCHWINN "AMERICAN" VINTAGE BIKE *

    The owner of the F-100 is a long time "Car Guy" and collector of a wide range of vintage bikes & memorabilia, with a particular interest in 1950's - 1970's items of interest. Since this bike is the same color and same year as the F-100, he has decided to include it in the sale. And, after all, what is more American than a Schwinn!!

    - Factory green paint with wonderful patina

    - Date code: W80846

    - Manufacture Date: June 19 - June 21, 1956

    - The current owner indicates that the bike was owned by the previous owner for many years and has never seen rain

    F-100 HISTORY

    The F-Series has become America's Favorite Pickup, with nearly a million sold per year. From 1948 till 1983, the last year the F-100 was produced, it served as the pickup for people who wanted a true workhorse. These classic trucks lasted for seven generations and saw substantial changes. Though they're no longer produced, Ford's smallest F-Series is now sought by collectors and people who appreciate the spartan builds of older pickup styles. Use this guide for a full overview of this classic truck's history and lineage.

    1953 - 1956 F-100's are prized collectors' items if you can find one in good shape. F-100s aren't sports cars, so no one bought an F-100 just to keep it locked away in a barn. Consequently, even though these vehicles sold spectacularly well, finding one in good shape might be as challenging as finding a first-generation Shelby. Each of the three years saw more than 100,000 F-100s roll out the door.

    With their rounded hoods and big friendly headlights, the early generation of F-100s are sometimes affectionately referred to as Effies by Ford enthusiasts who wanted a friendlier name for such a beloved truck.

    Even these early years saw substantial changes. The first year of the F-100 was also the last year that trucks in the United States had a flathead engine, with the next two years of F-series pickups upgraded to an overhead valve nicknamed the Power King...capable of reaching 130 hp, which was impressive for the time.

    Perhaps the easiest of the early F-100s to identify at a glance is the 1956 F-100 which was a one-year-only body style change. For this year, Ford added vertical windshield pillars, making it the easiest year to identify out of the first generation of F-100 pickups.

    PURCHASING A COLLECTOR VEHICLE - THINGS TO CONSIDER

    As always, we recommend that you carefully review the seller's background for any collector car being sold over the Internet. It is important to ask yourself a number of questions including, but not limited to:

    ·How long have they been in business?

    ·How much experience do they have with collector cars?

    ·How many positive collector car vehicle sales have they completed (positive eBay feedback)?

    ·How detailed/complete is the description of the vehicle?

    ·Do the photos show details of the interior, exterior, top, chrome, etc. or are they simply "glamour shots" taken from a distance?

    ·Does the seller have a Surety Bond to protect the financial transaction?

    ·What about insurance, licensing by the state, and a local business license?

    ·Does the seller (if a business) have any DMV (Motor Vehicle) complaints and/or other history of legal action, grievances?

    ·Does the seller enjoy a favorable local and national/international reputation?

    ·Can the seller assist with funding sources, transport and out of state/country sales?

    ·We have sold hundreds of unique, classic and collectible vehicles and regularly deal with buyers that have not had the experience of purchasing a large (both physically and monetarily) item on eBay, or through an Internet source.We strive to achieve 100% positive feedback on all vehicle sales from customers around the globe and is a reflection of our commitment to accurate, complete, and thorough vehicle descriptions.

We ask that prospective buyers consider our eBay history/feedback, standing in the community, length of time in business, and other factors when purchasing a collectible vehicle from Classic Cars Ltd.

    ·Minor cosmetic issues/flaws may be present on every vehicle (regardless of cost) including small chips, nicks, scratches, etc. that can be seen on even the best restoration, or even a relatively new, used "pre-owned" vehicle.Also, ownership of a collectible / specialty vehicle is more enjoyable if the owner is familiar with the "realities" of these unique cars.Unlike more modern day vehicles, these cars require regular, ongoing care/maintenance and some mechanical knowledge, patience, and understanding can make the experience considerably more pleasant.That said, collector / "specialty" car owners will tell you (emphatically) that they love their cars and wouldn't trade them for anything!!
