1950 Ford Other --

This is a very well sorted 1950 Ford Custom DeLuxe Convertible that has successfully toured many times with a perfect record of dependability. The owner has a collection of 65 cars and has enjoyed this Convertible for the past six years. We love the newly repainted dark blue livery with tan vinyl interior. The correct tan canvas top is also new, along with the boot cover. The carpet has a small area by the drivers seat that shows wear and...should be replaced or otherwise covered with a floor mat. To make the car more bullet-proof, this car was fitted with a custom after-market radiator and has new upgraded dual water pumps. (the original radiator will be included in the sale) It also has a complement of modern gauges for more accurate touring information. Our featured convertible came with a 239 CID Ford Flathead V8 with the three-speed overdrive manual transmission. The exhaust has been modified to sound similar to glass packs. So the wonderful rumble of the V-8 is heard from the exhaust. And it sounds very cool!! Overall, the cosmetics are very good. The car can proudly be displayed at local car shows, but it is by no means a trailer queen. This Ford is all about driving it and enjoying the smooth, powerful V-8! BACKGROUND ON THE 50 FORDS: In 1950, you could order your new shoebox Ford in Coupe, Sedan, Convertible or Wagon body styles. The 1949 1951 Shoe-box Fords are frequently credited with reviving the struggling Ford Motor Company of the time. Under the leadership of the then 32-year-old Henry Ford II, grandson of the founder, the company massively reinvigorated their passenger car line-up. Externally, the visual differences noted for the 1950 model year included the new rectangular parking lamps up front being moved below the grill bar and encased in bright metal housings. The block lettering found on the hood of the 49s was replaced in 1950, with a stylized Ford crest with red, white and blue cloisonn. The hood ornament was also altered to illustrate a more swept back design. The rear of the car received a similar badge as found on the hood, along with a body-colored deck handle and licence plate lamp assembly changed from the chrome of the 49s. Ford featured glass tail lights for the last time in 1950. External trunk hinges were also phased out after 1950 leading to the 1951 model having the trunk hinges moved internally. Other specific changes for the 1950 model included the gas cap being moved behind a filler door for the first time and the external door handle mechanisms were switched from a lever style to a push button. Internally, some changes noted in the 1950 model was that the speedometer needle was switched to plastic from the metal of the 1949 model. The radio speaker was switched out from chrome that blinded drivers when driving into the sun in the 49s to match the rest of the dash and avoid any further safety concerns.
