Description:

1983 Ford E-Series Van Commercial

1983 Ford 4x4 camper van. Advanced 4wheel drive conversion (in salt lake city) with Dana 44 front and dana 60 rear axel. Hi Low transfer case, 5.8L Windsor with 3 speed C6 tranny. About 120k miles total.
The camper part: Fully insulated for winter camping. Everything is inside and most things can freeze. (not the water pump or faucet) Marine 2 way foot water pump for single temp water at the sink (no electricity required) 7 gallon fresh water and grey water tank (you can change out the size of these as you desire) propane little buddy mobile heater with tank adaptor. Full electrical system AC/DC. 2000W max A/C inverter with 2 gfci outlets and 5 DC outlets. LED lighting strip and reading light. 30 amp/hr deep cycle RV batter with isolation circuit and alternator charging. voltage/drain gauge (pictured) and secondary isolation switch. Marine grade breaker panel and wiring throughout. Trickle charger on the Van battery and optional 125w solar panel system (not installed) for the van battery. If your not running the inverter, it will run all the power in the van for more than 7 days before it needs a charge. Bamboo counter top, water resistant wood free floor. one twin fold out bed with 3 rear seatbelt and 2 front seat belts. Sleeps 2 comfortably and 2 adults, 2 small children uncomfortably. lots of storage under the bench seat. Static cling limo tint on the major windows. Smoke/Carbon monoxide detector and fire extinguisher. I originally intended to have a cabinet in front of the circuit breaker panel for a D/C fridge, hanging clothes and drawers--but didn't get it finished. Instead you get a coleman cooler.
On top and outside: Rear step bumper with spot for swing out tire mount (I don't have it). Stainless steel powder coated ladder and roof rack deck (you can walk on it) NO boxes or Yakima bars included as pictured.

Someone did a pre purchase inspection at Old Fashion Auto repair. Unfortunately, I can't attach the original document but I can email it to you if you are serious. The only things they could come up with are as follows:
Minor oil leaks: Rear main seal, oil pan, trans pan, rear diff fill plug.Exhaust leak mid pipe. Drive belts will need to be replaced soon.I park this van in my driveway and it leaks less than my 03 VW TDI, you should be able to see the leaks in the photos. The exhaust leak would only require a welded in section, not a full replacement.
Things that I anticipate being needed at some point, or would be nice to replace (none of these things where mentioned on the pre purchase inspection):
Air pump (A/C) the clutch is bad in the air pump so it is not connected. It also needs to be switched over from freon (I have no idea how to spell that).steering gear- I changed this once with a remanufactured one, but I'd probably go for a new one next time. It will squeal a little if its really cold (below 10 F) and you turn the wheel while stopped on a hard surface.thermostat seal-it leaks a little from my poor install job in the mohave at 110.rust- The previous owner painted it white and didn't deal with the rust spots(you can see them pictured).the original carpet and front seats could be replaced.
This van is in excellent shape for it's age, and it's very reliable after some proactive updating. I lived in the van for a few days a weeks for the past 3-4 years. I've driven it over the rockies multiple times in summer and winter, and to Idaho, Montana, and California in August. It always starts, and runs well. The new carb has an electric choke so the skill associated with starting an old V8 is no longer necessary. This van has almost 36 inches (3 feet) of clearance in most places! It does very well as an off road vehicle. Approach angles are some of the best I've ever seen, better than a lot of Jeeps. It works as a daily driver and has a better turning radius (due to the straight from axle) than my Nissan Frontier. It leaks a little oil, has wet spots on the diff's and has the previously mentioned slow water leak in the thermostat seal (an easy fix). Seats 5, sleeps 2 comfortably. This vehicle is for sale As Is and includes no warranty except as provided by eBay.
For those who are not familiar with 4x4 vans: Ford does not make 4x4 vans, neither do most van manufacturers. The cost of a 4x4 conversion ranges from about 15-25k. The value in this camper van is in the 4x4 conversion, by a company that still exists and can fix or repair the system.
