Description:

1979 Ford Bronco Ranger XLT

For sale: Original paint survivor 1979 Bronco Ranger XLT from dry central Montana, never seen salt. Rare factory options like tow hooks, skid plates, tilt wheel, and oversize fuel tank. Per Marti Report one of 3 built in the high impact "Bright Emerald" color with this trim. Pure 1970s, when cars and trucks looked unique and weren't all silver or white. Ordered and sold new at Rygg Ford in Kalispell and stayed with it's original owner till 1984, when the second owner from Shelby purchased it. He owned it for 33 years, until I bought the truck last year and became it's third owner. Second long term owner was an older fellow and the truck was completely original and factory stock when I bought it, and I've changed very little - I added later Bronco alloy wheels and Flowmaster exhaust. Original white spoke "wagon" wheels with black center caps will be included with the truck, boxed up and in the back. Even the original jack, handle and wrench are there. Truck needs some work, but it's a solid rig you can drive while improving it. I'll do my best to describe it below, please read the entire ad and see linked Photobucket album and YouTube videos.
Exterior: Original paint still shines well, hood is pretty sun baked and has faded off in spots. A lot of small chips have been touched up, but it looks great from the curb, especially for an original survivor. There are a couple of dents, one in passenger front side of hood where 2nd owner hit mailbox, and one at back of driver door from when he left it open while backing into garage. They're not that noticeable and don't detract from the look of the rig. Very dry rig, 99 percent rust free, with no rot, cancer, rust-through or holes that I can see anywhere. Some small blisters in a few spots on doors and driver front fender where paint was chipped and surface rust started, don't show up in pics and are not noticeable. I took pics in sun and shade trying to show them, and they are really hard to see. Underside of truck looks great, for pics see Photobucket album below. Chrome is not pitted, front bumper could use replacement, but grille surround is good so there's $600 you don't have to spend. Overall the truck presents very well and will draw compliments and onlookers at the gas station or the Steak N Shake.

Interior: Original except for reupholstered seats, and very presentable for a driver. Dashpad is cracked under the mat. Carpet on driver side is worn through under floor mat and will need replacement at some point - see linked Photobucket album. Windshield is good, side windows are both cracked, but those are flat panes and any glass shop can cut replacements. Gauges, lights, heater, wipers, parking brake, aftermarket radio, etc all working. Heater select cable is stuck halfway between floor and defrost, I am including a replacement cable with the rig. Rear window works off dash switch but not the key switch in the gate. There's an aftermarket heater behind the rear seat, dash switch lever for that is broken. Overall decent looking rig that even the wife will approve of.
Mechanical: Starts, runs, and drives fine but the original 400 engine is tired. Oil pressure is on the low end of the gauge. Would probably work fine as is for putting around town, but serious highway duty or towing would require an engine rebuild. I replaced gas tank with new correct 33 gallon unit from Bronco Graveyard. I also put in a new battery, new front shocks, and new radius arm bushings, new master cylinder and new exhaust. Needs a tune-up, probably hoses and belts, and one soft plug is seeping coolant, it will leave a coolant stain on floor overnight. 4x4 works fine, has hubs but no part-time kit in transfer case - which means you run in 4wd or leave hubs in. Brake booster doesn't boost sometimes when cold in the morning for the first couple stops, plan on replacing that. Wheels and tires are in excellent condition, 30 x 9.50 recap tires have great tread and no weather cracks. Again, needs some sorting but overall a solid truck.

Pricing/Misc: I looked around for comps, and found a comparable dry Montana Bronco that sold recently for $10k. Check it out here:

If you're looking for a minty cream puff or restored show truck, my Bronco isn't your ride. If you want an honest original survivor to drive and improve while working on it, this could be the one. Title is clear and in my name, buyer will need to get insurance upon purchase as I will cancel mine. Truck can stay here for 30 days, after that $100/month storage will be due. Truck runs and drives, but flying in and driving it home isn't advisable, Montana is a huge state with many areas with no cell service or roadside assistance. Reasonable transport is available, and I will help load the truck on a transport.
