Description:

1966 Ford Mustang GT350

To quote from page 33 of the SAAC SHELBY REGISTRY 1965-1966-1967 4TH EDITION 2011:

"Some newly created Shelby's are built with a legitimate purpose. The original car may have been wrecked or damaged beyond repair and the car's owner has no choice but to reconstruct the car using all new pieces. SAAC has no problem with this, as long as the owner is honest about the details surrounding the car and its history."

On page 1302 of the same SAAC Registry is the definition of a rebody:

"REBODY. A Shelby which has been wrecked or rusted beyond repair, so all of the Shelby-unique parts (including the original Ford serial numbers) are transplanted onto a Mustang fastback unibody. If done correctly the result is more than a Mustang but less than a Shelby."

As it sits now, this beautiful 1966 GT 350-H underwent a full very expensive and extensive body-off restoration where it was refitted with the body of an early 1965 fastback sometime between 1993 & 2013 or so.

Car is located in northern California - SFM6S2066 has had a very colorful life, death and apparent re-birth since first being put into service by Shelby American & Hertz in New York City in May of 1966.

Originally delivered new to Hertz Corporation in NYC, through Larson Ford in White Plains, NY, this car was used and abused as a Shelby Hertz rent-a-car and eventually pulled from service and sold to its first private owner in September, 1967. From that point until 1992 the car moved thru several owners and several different states and sometime in the early 1990's the car was nearing the end of its life. The owner of the car, at the time, has reported saying the car was in a rusted decrepitate state of being when he sold it (He owned it for less then 3 months). At that point in time the car retained NONE of its original matching-numbers drive-train (as a matter of fact the original matching numbers motor was once offered for sale as being located in a Pinto in West Virginia in the late 1980's)!

Once the car moved on to its next several owners (from the early 1990's until 2014) & some point during those 25 or so years and multiple auctions and multiple owners the car was re-bodied using a 1965 Dearborn built Mustang fastback body. Additionally, the Ford numbers from the 1966 Hertz car did not make their way onto the 1965 body, just the original Shelby VIN plate and all of the Shelby and mustang parts and pieces that were left from the original body-hull as you can see in the pictures

This re-body process was not reported (nor found out about) until the present owner bought the car at auction under the written representation & understanding that the car was "original and matching numbers". Unfortunately, the current owner did not find out about the cars issues for several months after the auction and with any auction you are buying "as-is, where-is".

After several attempts to sell the car at auctions doing a FULL DISCLOSURE of any and all history the owner has decided to sell the car, on eBay, for a 7-day ABSOLUTE NO RESERVE auction. That's right, NO RESERVE, FULL DISCLOSURE and it will sell to the high bidder. The car has a real HI-PO 289 engine in it and the car is CA titled as a 1966 Ford Shelby Mustang with the VIN # of SFM6S2066.

SAAC (Shelby American Automobile Club) is fully aware of everything that has been stated here and even provided the seller with copies of the original paperwork on the car so that everyone can see what the car was when new, verse what it is today.

This car can be driven and enjoyed as it sits, this car can be turned into a SVRA race car, it can be turned into an open track vintage race car, you can cut the top off and show the world what a 1966 GT 350H convertible would have looked like had one ever been made - The possibilities are endless

Honesty is the best and only policy of this seller - You have questions? I will do my very best to answer any questions and I will post the Q&A on the auction (so check back often for updates) - Carroll Shelby and most of the 1960's Shelby Mustangs and CSX Cobra's have always had good stories about them told from the ages and this car is no different.

The car is sold the same way it was sold to the current owner "AS-IS, WHERE IS" no guarantees or warranties apply.
