Description:

1968 Dodge Dart GTS

Up for sale is your chance to buy one of the Rarest of Dodge Darts ! It is a 1968 Dart GTS 383 Convertible. Born on February 5th 1968.There were only 80 built with 40 as 4-speeds and 40 as Automatics, this is an automatic. Of the 40 built there are only 4 registered in the GTS registry forum including this one as #485. First a quick history on the car, It has been a 1 family owned car until I bought it, It was sold new from a local Dodge dealer to the father, He sold it to his Son in 1971 with 54,000 miles. The Son had the car until 2006. During that time the Son briefly raced it for a year as shown with a photo I have.( best time was 13.87 at 98.68 mph) When he sold it to a cousin in 2006 it had 98,200 miles. The car sat in the cousin’s garage from 2000 to 2021 when I bought it. For the paperwork book I have on the car it includes the Racing photo, Build Sheet, Fender data tag, Original sales brochure, owner’s manual, copy of 2nd title on car from father to son, with old registration paper, and lots of notes and receipts for car. For the car, BODY- the body is nice and straight with no dents, doors fit and close good, it appears no rust ever! All panels look great with no repairs, door bottoms are great, floors are perfect and quarters look like they were never touched as well as the trunk floor. When have you seen a New England Dart that wasn’t rusted ? The fender wells are uncut or modified for the headers. The car has been repainted in the original color and is in Fair shape with surface scratches and would benefit from a good detail to make it look better. The trunk lid has holes in it from a spoiler that once was on it (included) under the hood and trunk has been brush painted black.-Interior- in original colors with normal wear but still presents nice. Conv Top- I am told it is ORIGINAL, it has one seam opening as shown, I did unlatch it and work the switch and the top functioned but Did Not lower it. Drivetrain- It has the great 383 Magnum 4 barrel, it is MATCHING Number to car ! it has been rebuilt from the son, I do have most original engine parts replaced, as well the original- intake, carb ( rebuilt) alternator(rebuilt) and a replacement set of cast exhaust manifolds- cast 3-68 Currently the carb on it has No choke setup and starts with putting gas down the carb to get it to start. Once warm the car has no problem running a nice 150’ strip of rubber! The transmission has also been rebuilt, I was told it is also original to the car. It shifts well. Rear Axl, I believe it is NOT correct for the car, last owner told me he thinks it was from a 70 or 71 because of the drum size and is currently a single legger. I do not know how to decode the build sheet to know what was in it. I do have another gear unit that was in the trunk with the car. I have a trunk full of parts that go with the car like the wheels, hubcaps, a NEW set of radial Redline tire, Day one carb and Alt, intake, and lots of stuff for the car, you get it all. The car needs the original intake and carb put back on, the new tires put on because the ones on it are over 35 years old and are ready to explode from dry rot. I bought the car to drive and just have not done that because I have to many cars and need to downsize. I Am Not a Mopar expert so please look at my last picture and talk to me with questions!

Overall this is just a GREAT RARE CAR that is super solid that just needs some more love to take it to the next level. You may never get a chance to buy a car like this at a reasonable price as these are so undervalued right now!
