1973 Chevrolet Vega GT Kammback Wagon
For sale & just in time for Summer 2023 is this 50 year old 1973 Chevy Vega GT Kammback 2 Door Station 4 Speed Wagon!
Quick Facts:
  • Has clear Texas title in my name
  • Comes with original Lakewood, Colorado Chevrolet dealer (Jerry Roth Chevrolet) paperwork from March 3, 1973
  • Matching numbers inline 4 cylinder motor, 4 speed (an option) & 10 bolt differential (non-posi) (stampings match VIN & dealer paperwork)
  • GT package: 2 barrel Holley, sport stripes (rear deck stripes faded away), rally wheels with chrome trim, F41 suspension; stiffer shocks (spiral in rear) and front & rear sway bars, outer black & silver lower body moldings
  • Wagon runs & drives but the motor heats up quickly so you'll have to trailer/tow it home
  • Front disc brakes & parking brake hold/work but rear drum brakes do not hold
  • 5,529 miles on the odometer, too old for Car Fax or AutoCheck to verify this
  • VIN plate, Cowl plate & inner hood decal with motor details are original & in place
  • 140cid has VIN stamp & transmission number stamp, 4 speed has VIN stamped on it, 10 bolt's axle stamp matches the dealer "New Vehicle Inspection" document
  • Last on the road in 1987 and registered in Las Cruces, New Mexico
  • Not registered or titled since 1987 until May 2023

Original parts/equipment still on this Vega GT Kammback Wagon:
  • Matching numbers motor, 4 speed & rear end
  • Original starter (with correct date codes)
  • Original 63 amp alternator (with correct date codes) replaced as it wasn't working. I installed a new/remanufactured 63 amp ACDelco this week.
  • Original rear spiral shocks (with correct date codes)
  • All F41 suspension components (shocks, front & rear sway bars, 4-lug 13" rally wheels (4 + 1 spare), white sport stripes (hood & rear door) are faded with the rear stripe no longer visible
  • GT badging & center steering wheel badge are present
  • Driver's side & passenger side outside mirrors present
  • 2 barrel Holley with Fram air cleaner
  • Heater motor installed but heater core is missing
  • Has original sun visors (but are frozen..hard to move & need attention)
  • Original bucket seats (front driver's side back reclines) & rear seat (vinyl is sun damaged for all seats & they need to be replaced)
  • Original GM front shoulder & lap seat belts & rear seat GM seat belts present (including the vinyl shoulder belt storage bins mounted above the front passenger area interior roof)
  • Custom Interior (an upgrade) green vinyl & faux wood interior panels present but all show wear & tear
  • Has some original green carpeting (missing both driver's & passenger front seat section) & missing the wagon rear flat deck carpeting
  • Original floors are in excellent shape inside and underneath the wagon, no rust!
  • Front egg-crate Camaro-like grill
  • Front chrome bumper with 2 small bumperettes present, the ends of this front bumper were cut off
  • Rear chrome bumper has a dent, has 2 chrome bumper guards
  • All original PPG glass throughout, windshield has a crack (lower driver's side area) & stone chips
  • All brake components are original, one of the rear drums had a GM factory paper sticker still attached but it was so worn out we replaced it with another drum from a 1972 Vega.
  • There are still factory markings on some engine components & most of the hose/fuel line metal clamps are original.
  • The original fuel tank is in excellent condition, I cleaned it, we replaced the in-tank electrical fuel pump with a new unit (not the sending unit, just the pump) and replaced the aged rubber fuel line that connects the fuel pump to the metal fuel line running under the wagon.
  • Has original tire jack & the original spare rally wheel & old Goodyear tire (unusable)

What issues does this wagon have? - Additional photos available upon request, contact me.-
  • Original VIN matching motor heats up quickly, probably should be rebuilt if you want to keep it original.
  • Medium Green paint is faded, scratched, and has dings & dents throughout as pictured, driver's side door was replaced & is a different color green.
  • Front lower valance and rear valance are both cracked and in the rear partly missing (passenger side half)
  • Rust areas: No major rust! All wagon floors are in excellent condition including the rear flat storage metal. Fenders, quarters, front and rear metal sections are in good shape.
  • But there are some rusty areas: driver's side replacement door has rust damage on the bottom, spare tire wheel well under the wagon rear floor compartment is rusted out, some rust damage just behind front driver's side wheel well, battery tray is missing & sheet metal underneath the now gone battery tray is damaged due to battery acid leakage, hood needs adjusting to sit/fit properly, hood release cable is missing, small dent on top of passenger side front fender. Front driver's side headlight bezel has a dent. Rear wagon door is missing lock mechanism & has rust where the lock mechanism rests & plastic trim around wagon rear window is damaged.
  • Electrical: we cannot start the engine with the key, we are running a wire from the coil to the battery to start the motor. The turn signals are not working properly, the dash panel lights don't come on (I installed new Phillips 194 light bulbs)
  • All door & wagon rear door locks must be re-keyed or replaced with new locks with new keys
  • Original AM radio does not work, original clock does not work
  • Has 4 used Douglas All Season 175 70R13 tires just to move it around, will need new tires
  • This is a surprisingly original wagon, which means all parts (except the new alternator, battery, used tires & some light bulbs) are 50 years old so I'm sure I missed some flaws, still it's a cool wagon.
