Up for auction is an absolutely beautiful 1955 Chevy 3100 Big Window Short Box Pickup. This truck has been in the process of restoration since the early 1980s and has just recently been completed. Nearly every part on this truck is brand new or rebuilt. This truck has been fitted with a Plymouth Volare front independent suspension setup with torsion bars for adjustable ride height. The original front frame rails remain in the truck and were grafted with the entire front cross member and control arms from the Volare. The rear suspension consists of an axle over spring flip and air shocks for desired ride height. The truck is also equipped with power steering and front disc brakes with a master cylinder relocation kit to under the driver's side floor. The battery has been relocated to under the passenger side floor. The engine in this truck is a very healthy 327. This engine was completely rebuilt and bored .030 over approximately 1500 miles ago. Based upon the casting numbers it is believed that this is in fact a 1964 Corvette 327 high performance engine and retains the original Chevy Camel Hump 202 heads. The engine is mated to a TH400 automatic transmission with a fresh fluid and filter change. Electronically, this truck is brand new. A completely new wiring harness from American Auto Wire has just been installed. Starting with a brand new blade style fuse panel under the dash, every light, gauge and indicator has been rewired and are all fully operational. There is not one piece of original wire throughout this entire truck. The wiring harness also has additional provisions for future installation of power seats, power windows, power locks, A/C and cruise control if one desired. The charge system has also been completely rewired and has a brand new external voltage regulator. The battery is also brand new. The original cluster remains in the truck and the original fuel gauge still works, but accessory gauges have been added for oil pressure, voltage and water temp. The interior of this truck is 100% brand new and has been fitted with new carpets from OER along with new seat upholstery, door panels and headliner. The truck is fitted with a tilt column and a beautiful LOKAR 23 inch automatic shifter and shifter boot. A pioneer radio with Bluetooth has been added with 2 6"x9" speakers behind the rear seat as well. The heater box was removed and repainted and a brand new heater core has been installed. All of the glass is in excellent condition. All of the hood and door bumpers, door fuzzies and rubber door seals have been replaced. The body of this truck is very straight and rust free. At the time of the paint work the body and bed were actually removed from the frame and sprayed separately. While the cab and bed were off, the frame was completely cleaned and painted before reassembly and all new cab mounts and hardware were used. The wood bed has just been completely overhauled with all new wood, stainless trim and stainless hardware. The truck has an under-bed fuel cell mounted and the filler cap is recessed into the bed floor. The front and rear bumpers along with the front grille have all been triple chrome plated. All of the other chrome trim is in excellent condition. The paint on this truck is called Prowler Orange. The paint shows very well with a deep metallic shine and looks extremely nice, but it does have a few blemishes. There are no major dings, dents or scratches, but just a few nicks in the paint from storage and transport since it was resprayed. The quality of the paint job is much better than driver quality, but was definitely not a $20,000 show car job. Lastly, this truck has a brand new set of staggered US Mag Standard wheels in 18x8" in the front and 20x9.5" in the rear. The front tires are 245/40/18 and the rear tires are 275/30/20. The truck has an aggressive yet functional stance with a pleasant ride quality. The truck is extremely fun to drive with very tight steering and good stopping power. The rear gearing in the truck is likely somewhere in the 2.80:1 region, making it a great cruiser at higher speeds. The side exit exhaust has an excellent throaty sound and does not drone heavily while driving. This truck is an absolute head turner and will surely not disappoint.
