1970 Buick Electra 225 Custom
Large & in charge Buick Deuce and a Quarter convertible! This 50 year old car was recently awakened from a 30 year slumber in a shed. Over the last year or so I have gone through the entire car repairing and/or replacing whatever was necessary to get her roadworthy. To date I have replaced the fuel tank & sending unit, master cylinder & booster, some brake lines & wheel cylinders, fuel pump, radiator & hoses, water pump, spark plugs & wires, all fluids,1 window motor, dimmer switch, all the belts, flashers & bulbs and many other misc. items. She was converted to an HEI distributor which necessitated the installation of an 800 CCA battery and a chromed, 1 wire alternator, not seen in these pictures. I continue to work on and improvethe car and before it is sold I will have replaced both choke pull-offs. All original parts are included in the sale.
This is a very solid car with no rust in theframe, floor pans, trunk pan, rockers or the bottoms of the doors. The only rust through issues are in the battery tray area (common problem area)and the inner trunk lid panel. A few bubbles here and there are present but arevery minor in nature. The paint is at least 30 years old and the car looks good from ten feet away, but as you get closer flaws are evident, including some cracking, etc. The convertible top (white, with glass back window)is possibly original to the car and though it holds out the weather, it will need replacing soon. Chrome is decent for a driver but not show quality. The tri-shield badge on the front bumper is long gone but the mounting bracket is in place.
The interior is overall in good condition for a convertible of this age, however the drivers side, front seat is split and there is some sun damage here and there. The dash is not cracked or broken and everything is in place.
The car is well optioned with power steering, brakes, seat (6 way), top& windows, air conditioning (working!), tilt steering wheel, cruise control (not working), clock (works sometimes), AM radio (not working)with rear speaker, glass back window, fender skirts, Buick sport wheels (5)and more. Everything is working, except as noted.
These cars were built for the road and this Buick cruises exceptionally well and rides like a dream. It has the Buick 455 engine with 370 hp and 510 lb ft of torque to get her moving. She starts easily and idles well with a slight exhaust leak in one of the manifold gaskets that ticks when cold but is barely noticeable after warm-up. The 3 speed automatic transmission pops right into gear and shifts well with no issue. The brakes work well but this is a large car with drum brakes, don't expect to stop on a dime! All the lights and blinkers are working and the car retains all four T-3 headlights.
The convertible top works well but the passenger side ram is leaking and will need repair or replacement. Both doors work well, as do the power windows and seat, the glass is all good. The glovebox light comes on when the door is opened, as it should.
I have this Buick insured, registered and on the road. I take her out for drives aroundmy rural areaand have addressed any little issues as they have cropped-up. I have it to the point now where I'm ready to sell the car to a new owner and move on to the next project. I have been fooling around with old cars for 45 years and I consider this Buick to be a good driver, or an easy, rolling restoration project. People love to see it out on the road and they all wave or want to talk to you about it. It gets attention!
This is the last year of production for the Electra convertible and only 6,045 were built. They can be difficult to find today in good condition and that's exactly why I jumped on this one when I found it. Its solid conditionsold me and I had to see it back on the road. I have tried to be very honest and critical in my description of this great car. I can only post 25 pictures here but I have manyfar more detailed pictures of every aspect of the carthat I can email to anyone interested. I can also show the car to qualified buyers or inspectors if an appointment is made. I can be reached by email at: blairmoffett@aol.com or by phone/text at (540) 718-0048 (text is usually best to make first contact). I am happy to answer any questions you may have. I know the value of these cars and have placed a very reasonable reserve on this one that I will not divulge. I can help with transport/shipping to anywhere in the U.S. or around the world.
Thanks for looking. Happy motoring!
