1972 BMW 2002

For sale is a modified Chamonix 1972 BMW 2002. The motor is an M10 and is coupled to a Getrag 5 speed manual. The motor dates to 1975 and the 5 speed swap were done by previous owners.
I quit my full time engineering job to free up time to take this build on. It took 5 months. I have a billion more pictures i can share.
I drove it daily for 6 months after completion to make sure it was sound and reliable. My longest road trips were about 150 miles, one way.
Details via bullet point:
Purchased in Moss Landing CAPrevious 3 owners also lived in CA, I've spoken to the last two.Shipped to OhioOdometer did not work when i bought the car (13232 miles)I fixed the odometer by steaking the shaft and gear joint.Car has been painted several timesNo rustCurrently has the original color of ChamonixPaint is single stage enamelBody compound exists in a few different spotsI pulled the motor, trans, and the ENTIRE interior out including headliner and dashboardSmyth (local to Cincinnati) did the machining for the rebuildJust over 6k on the build nowBores were turned .030Forged pistons 9.2:1 compcrank was touched uprods were perfect and reused (but new hardware)all new valve and timing components from IE (Ireland Engineering)284 Schrick camnew oil pumpTube header (wrapped)new 38/38 Webernew Carter fuel pumpnew fuel linefuel pressure gauge installedPertronics ignition plus coil, wires, etc...Took the Getrag 5 speed to a local shop for inspection, and they changed front and real seals plus fluidnew clutchGuibo was new, but now will soon need replacementNew IE motor and trans mountsSupport bracket on drivers side had the typical crack failure, so i welded the bracket and additional support material over the top of itElectric fan installed (pusher because there is no space for a puller)wiring harness is a mess...my biggest mistake was not replacing it...there are some gremlins but only in accessory circuits, i tagged my wire pulls with letter stamped aluminum tagsnew voltage regulator, fuses, relays, main power supply and ground wiresnew batterynew alternatornew startercustom stereo install (tweeters dash mounted, mid range speakers currently populate the space from where the heater core went, rear mounted full range drivers in the back, 60wpc amp, kenwood head unit)i built a stereo box hard mounted to dash (all reversible)Deleted the center councilZERO body rust found during interior tear-downDynamat material was existingI made all new interior panels, rear (formed) panel base was reused, fronts are new board materialSewing was done by my local upholstery guy on a juko machineall materials were automotive specific like adhesive, panel hardware threadi used rivets for panel main construction, not clips like old german guys back in 1972headliner is all me from a design standpoint, I did not reuse the existing fastening system (I have the OE rods) and decided to use a padded material contacted directly to roof metal and its structural components (the headliner is 100% in tact from the day it was finished)I applied some sewn leather material to the dash (to conceal dash cracks and to create a material contrast)I also fabricated a leather insert for the dash above the gauge clusterFront seats and rear bench are vinyl covers and were SEM'd to black, previous vinyl was navy blueI detailed the mechanicals and painted the components and added stainless hardware (most of the existing plastic was destroyed)The pedal box and mechanicals are exposed i removed the carpet in that spot and fabricated a thick steel ring and stainless hardware to trap the carpet and secure the boxi fabricated the steel foot pedals from plate and used rivets for gripTrunk space is super clean and needed no attentioni made new removable trunk panels and covered them with heavy black feltGlass is all original and in damn good shapeLots of electrical accessories were deleted or are inoperable, but critical circuits like water temp, oil pressure, fuel, blinkers, headlights, signals all workI have all my receiptsI kept all old parts including engine componentsComes with a spare tireExisting rims are from a 320iTires have treadTitled in my name (clean)I followed all BMW published procedures related to torquing the head (3 times after certain mileage intervals), and also completed a valve adjustment per spec...
Currently, the only work needed is to repair/replace the master brake cylinder (i suspect split o-rings)Guibo is showing cracks and should be a short term point of maintenanceI drive it weekly in city and hwy traffic now, but stopping distance is more than it should beGets just over 20mpg
The motor is awesome and is easily the highlight of the car...Lots of torque and spins to 6k if you want. It did 0-60 in about 8 seconds the day i took these pictures. The weak point is paint and electrical/harness issues. a color change would be a big commitment and would be high dollar. The harness is what it is, gauges bounce sporadically and scale to circuit resistances...sometimes.
I am willing to help and will try to be flexible with shipping the car if needed.
