Description:

1962 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Deluxe Trim

Up for sale is an original German Volkswagon 1962 bus. Not a bus from Brazil. This bus is reliable and was serviced last month. It is garage kept and can be a daily driver. However, this is not a fast modern vehicle, it is a classic and a great weekend cruiser. It was one of the vehicles featured in this year's NYC Stueben Parade back in September. The inside of this bus is a time capsule from 1962. All interior paint, door panels, and seats are original with the exception of the two front bucket seats which are new. The third seat has wear and tear. The rarely found middle seat is excellent and I was offered $4,000 for this original 1962 seat. All running lights, brake lights, and blinkers work. Horn and speedometer work and brakes have just been replaced. It is turnkey and ready to go. The exterior of bus has been sanded down to metal and new dog legs on both left and right have been replaced. Left and right floor panels have been replaced, as well. The drivers side left panel between front and back tire was replaced. Any place there was body rust it was cut out and welded. Once body work was complete it was painted the original factory colors of L289 Blue White over VWL380 Turquoise. This is not a rotisserie body job, but a very straight and honest body repair. It has original glass through out except for the front safari windows. The back window has a crack, but did not want to replace because it is the factory window and didn't see the need too. There is no headliner, but I have the metal brackets for a new one. I have replaced about 60% of door seal rubber. Gas needle is stuck at 3/4's of a tank. The following is a detailed list of work done on this bus:
  • drain and fill transmission and reduction gears
  • engine oil changes
  • bleed brakes
  • replace right rear wheel cylinder
  • replace rear brake shoes
  • adjust clutch
  • front end lubrication
  • replace left inner and outer front wheel bearings, grease right wheel bearings
  • replace suspension stops
  • valve adjustment, new valve gaskets
  • change spark plugs and wires
  • file points and check dwell
  • adjust timing
  • clean and fill air filter
  • replace fuel filter and all new cloth braided fuel hoses
  • replace master cylinder and adjust pedal
  • set automatic choke
  • set tire pressure, 30 front 37 rear
  • adjust hand brake
  • replace speedometer cable
  • repair brake light right side
  • new starter
  • front "Safari" windows
