1986 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon GL

1986 California Volkswagen Westfalia GL Camper Van. This van was stored in a house-attached garage in California for ten years until 2016 - dusty photo included.
At this writing, the original odometer reads 163,538 miles. The factory rebuilt 2.1 liter engine was installed 5k miles ago. The rebuilt manual transaxle was installed 25k miles ago. Brakes, clutch and engine accessories tested and replaced as necessary during the time of engine change. A new radiator, water pump and associated belts and hoses were also installed at this time.
The poptop canvas is undamaged and original. The tires are almost new. A TransAwn 2000 rain-gutter mounted awning is included, but not pictured. Interior laminates are like new - no peeling to be found anywhere.
Excellent original front screens, rear screens, and privacy curtains included. Two newer 12-volt batteries installed in the battery compartments just behind the front seats. Windshield and rear hatch glass recently removed and replaced and new seals installed. A small inverter and battery charger are wired into the electrical system. The dent in the sliding door is cosmetic, is not visible inside the van, and does not affect usage of the door.
The rebuilt propane tank has new fittings, valves, and regulator. The stove works, the sink works, and the refrigerator works in all three modes - propane, 12v dc and 120v ac.
Over the years I've owned other Westys, but without doubt, this one is the best of the lot - the color scheme is tasteful and pleasing to the eye. I'm told that 1986 is one of the best years for these vans. Given the peppy performance of this one, I'm inclined to believe it. This Westy has the looks, feel, and performance of a much newer low mileage vehicle.
