1985 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Westfalia

Hi Everyone,

My time as the caretaker of this Westy has come to an end and I'd love to pass it along to someone who will treasure it. I have owned it for about 5 years and it has taken me on so many adventures. About 2 years into ownership we replaced the motor with a brand new fully rebuilt motor from Euro Pro in Costa Mesa. We had been losing power and turns out a gasket had blown. The past 3 years with the new motor have been flawless. The last trip we took was an 11 day round trip to Denver from LA to 5 national parks and up and over the Rockies twice. We have gone to Baja, Big Sur, Zion, San O, SF, Humboldt, the Mojave, Joshua Tree, Ojai, and many more mostly westcoast locations. I'm in Los Angeles and can meet up anywhere. Would even do one last trip to take it to you if there's airport I can fly home from.

The Good:

Priced to sell because I just want to move it along to someone and not try to squeeze every penny out of selling it. I've had fun and time to move on.

Less than 10,000 miles on a professionally rebuilt motor. You'll have no trouble during your time with it

Watercooled versus 1984 and all previous models

Paint was done the year before I got it.

I spent lots of money on GoWesty to get all the bells and whistles.

Inverter and Charger from GW

Solar Panel from GW that folds up real small

House Batteries installed under Drivers seat

New wheels and Tires from GW which are rated for another 80k miles

New Brake pads

New/Rebuilt motor from Euro Pro in Costa Mesa, look them up. All they do is VW and their garage is full of Westys. They are the absolute best. Total job cost about $6-7k because I replaced a lot of other optional parts just to not deal with any hassles down the line. I have receipts for everything

Hardwood floor installed in the center area

New Fuel Pump

Fridge Works. We kept groceries cold the entire trip to Denver

Sink Works. We flush the fresh tank at the end of a trip and then just fill it up before we take off. So nice to have water on tap

Stove Works: 2 burner stove has never had a problem and the 3 gallon propane tank lasts forever

Has the full A/C hooks but I haven't charged it in years because I never have needed/wanted it

Surf/Gear Rack installed

West Coast Car so you won't see or deal with any rust issues

In all I've probably put in $10,000 in parts/motor over the last 5 years just so I wouldn't have to deal with any issues

The ”Not great but fixable”:

Power steering pump went out about 2 years ago. Instead of replacing I've just dealt with not having powersteering because it doesn't bother me at all. I've had a bunch of older cars without it so I'm just used to itThe part is $150 on GW and you could easily do it yourself.

The poptop has some wear and small rips and the zipper has never worked but its never bothered me

A/C not charged

Cigarette lighter and one of the internal lights works intermittently. Probably just has a loose wire behind it

Things I would do if I was keeping it longer:

Replace the rear bumper because it just a little banged up. The cheapest option is $100 for the steel or you can go with the crazy expensive ones from GW for $500 (But they do look epic)

Fix the cig lighter

Eventually fix the power steering
