In 1968 we were introduced to America’s most lovable Volkswagen Beetle. Herbie. As featured in Walt Disney’s hit movie "Herbie the Love Bug". here is your chance to own an accurately executed and well sorted example of this instantly recognizable Hollywood legend. This tribute/re-creation Herbie was designed from the start to immortalize one of the most unique Herbies ever made from the first original movies "The race car Herbie". also known by enthusiasts as Herbie #2. H-2 was the only Porsche powered Herbie they ever built. Hours of research and consultation with experts/enthusiasts were spent before embarking on this build since accuracy and authenticity were a high priority. Pain staking efforts were made to authentically replicate Herbie #2 (H-2) to the best possible degree with the period correct parts. The result is a fully functioning “Herbie” that can be driven every day. nbsp; shown/displayed at car shows. and cruise nights. and reliable enough to participate in multi-day road rally’s and vintage tours and w/o requiring a trailer. This vehicle was built also using the proper and highly desired 1963 deluxe ragtop. Movie star Herbie was painted in L 87 pearl white (not actually pearl paint. just VW’s name). This car has also been painted the correct pearl white with a single stage paint. As far as I can tell L-87 is the factory original color of this car as well. Wider wheels were fabricated and fitted. This was made possible by welding VW inner wheels to Chevy outers. which is exactly how the original H-2 race car was prepared for the track. The graphics are accurate to the original car in color. width and font styles. Copied from an original movie car. The H-2 engine was a Porsche 356 super 90 with dual Weber’s. As you can see from the original black-and-white photo and the color photo of this engine they are virtually identical with one the exception. this car has a new VW 1915 case & not a 356 caseWith the help from one of the best VW engine builders in Southern California. Pro-formance in Orange. CA. they were able to marry all of the period correct original Porsche 356 engine parts that you see when you open the engine lid (see photos) to the VW case that you dont see. The engine is bolted to a new “freeway flyer” four speed transmission. In addition we added a full flow oil system. Porsche pulleys. Porsche generator. electric fuel pump. electronic ignition and a lightweight flywheel along with all the other new internal parts which gives this engine approximately 110 to 115 hp. Hidden disc brakes were added to the front to make sure you can stop Herbie on a dime. Unlike the unsightly primer gray movie interiors. this car was fitted with a period correct interior. Weather resistant speakers were added up underneath the front fenders and a power amp. was installed to play the Herbie theme music during parades via your iPhone or iPodThe oil has just been changed. valves adjusted. gas filter replaced. and the carbs. adjusted to the tune of over $600. 00. As validation for our build efforts. this car was invited to participate in the Red Carpet Premier of the feature movie “Herbie Fully Loaded”. On Sunday June 19th 2005. this car was prominently displayed on the red carpet for the Hollywood premiere of “Herbie Fully Loaded” starring Lindsey Lohan (see photos) at the historic “El Capitan” theater in Hollywood. As the celebrities and their families landed on the red carpet they were greeted by flanking rows of Herbies that were beckoning for them to get into and explore. which many celebrities did (see photos). A year later this car was invited to. and displayed prominently at the prestigious Newport Beach Concours d'Elegance in Newport Beach California. Included with the reassignment of this car will be the media material that was provided by Disney to all of the Herbie owners who attended the Premier. This will include security badges. letters from Disney. custom-made hat and shirt and other items that were only available to those who participated in the premier. Also included will be a few custom handmade items by the participants which cannot be found anywhere. A new gray rag top. and at least 1 new set of graphics will also be included. A decision was made early on not to make this car a “trailer queen”. instead we decided to keep it as original as possible. drive it. and enjoy it. Since it's completion in 2005. this Herbie has been continuously maintained and garage kept. but has been driven less than 2000 miles since completion. Road miles include the occasional trips to the beach. Fourth of July parades. the occasional paid appearances at birthday parties. local car shows and going out for ice cream with the family. Even today. 47 years later. you can't help but smile when you hear that familiar “beep beep” and see Herbie driving down the road. No other car big or small has brought smiles and enjoyment to so many people as this adorable little Volkswagen. No matter where you drive you'll always get people waving & giving you a thumbs up. You would have a hard time finding an iconic car with more bang for your buck. This “Herbie” gets more attention than many classic and collector cars costing much more than our reserve and this VW Beetle is much more friendly and easier to drive and maintain……….
