Description:

1957 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic

Up for auction is this 1957 Oval window Beetle. This is a rag top sunroofBeetle that also has functioning semaphores.

I am listing this Volksrod for a friend who built it in 2005 and is to busy to enjoy it anymore. The entire build has less than 800 miles on it. This is not your standard (remove the fenders and drop the front end) rat rod. The car started as a 98% rust free vehicle. The top was wedge chopped 2 1/2 inches. Front and rear were fabricatedso the stock hood and deck lid close properly and seal offfrom the outside completely. A speedway I-Beam front end was utilized in this build. This also included a pair of front disc brakes. The entire chassis was restored and built back up with all new components including new WW floor pans, brakes, cables etc. etc. The tires are 8.20-15 fronts and 8.9-15in the rear.

The engine is 100% Gene Berg. This is a 2007cc with dual 42s. As I stated...everything in the engine compartment and engine related is Gene Berg. That includes the 1 1/2 flanged heater boxes (yes this vehicle does have fully functional heat). The bill from Gene Berg was just under $9000

The transmission is 100% brand new. That includes Rhino case, every gear, every bearing, every bolt is all brand new and not rebuilt.I can get the gearing upon request. This transmission cost close to $4000 to build.

Interior is real rawhide leather and is constructed perfectly and is in excellent condition. Inside you will also find a Berg shifter, original radio with I-Pod retrofit, original uncut dash, a speedometer that is actually custom built into a tachometer, perfect functioning rag top, optima battery, fuel tap and handle, original semaphore switch, half batwing steering wheeland fully functioning heat.

Every window in the car is glass.(NOT Lexan)They areall installed with original VW seals that have been modified to fit the smaller windows.

Paint and detail paint/powder coating is where this car has room for improvement. The paint looks good if you put this in the rat rod category. With all of the detail and money spent on this proper build, I do not consider this a rat rod. It could use a proper paint job to bring it up to par with the rest of the work done. Don't misunderstand... it is quite presentable but does have quite a few chips and goofy looking finish in some spots. It is not hard to pick it apart in person but it is not visible when rolling down the road. Since this car has sat more than it was ever driven, it does have some surface rust on a few components. This falls in the detail/powder coating upgrades that will bring this car back to what it was when it was first built.

All wiring and lighting is in good order down to the original snow flake tail lights with steel pods mounted in the rear wheel wells.

Overall, this is a hop in and drive down the road anywhere you want to go. I have been driving the car quite a bit in the past few weeks after it has sat in storage for 4-5 years. The front end is quite stiff as there is no weight out there. 1-2 leafs could be removed easily if it is to stiff for you. With the large tires it does move around on the road a little bit but no more than most of the VWs I drive on a weekly basis.

If you have any questions or would like to view the car in person just let me know. If I cant answer the questions I will forward them on to the owner. Feel free to call, text or email Adam Kottke at 815-222-0644

All receipts are available upon request to serious bidders.
