1984 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Westfalia

Up for grabs, against my better judgement, is our 1984 VW Westfalia with a 2.5L Subaru DOHC engine. We just found out we are starting our family...Right Now! We had not planned to sell our van, and it is in exceptional condition with all of the mechanicals having been freshly overhauled. The engine is from a 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback that belonged to a friend of mine in Portland, OR. In September of 2014 at only 100k miles he was rear-ended and it totaled the car. The engine went into our Vanagon using a Rocky Mountain Westy full conversion kit. This included having RMW perform the wiring harness modification so everything electronically in the van works just as it did with the factory engine. There is a brand new transaxle installed from German Transaxle in Bend, OR that works flawlessly as well as a brand new transaxle mount that replaced the worn stock mount. All of the bushings have been replaced throughout the entire shifter linkage and the shifting has been fine tuned. All of the suspension is new. Bilstein Heavy Duty B6 shocks are installed at all 4 corners along with brand new springs from Van Cafe, full front and rear urethane suspension bushings from RMW, and new 25mm T3 Technique anti-sway bar in the front. The wheels and tires are new 15" units from RMW. The ride is super solid even in strong cross winds with all of these upgrades. The brakes are brand new all around along with the entire hydraulic system. All slave and master cylinders plus hoses are brand new German OEM from Van Cafe. The fuel system is completely new including the tank, pump, filter, hoses, and level sensor. The cooling system is completely new with 1.5" stainless steel pipes running front to back, a new radiator, new rear heater core, perfect condition front heater core, and new blower fans for the heaters so they work perfect and don't squeak. The factory A/C controls are in the dash but a previous owner removed the overhead unit. It can be sourced and connected the Subaru engine with stock parts should a future owner decide they want A/C. Headlights have been upgraded to Hella H4 German high-power units from Bus Depot. Heavy-duty pop-top assist shocks allow one person to lift the roof when fully loaded. New ARB awning installed that has been a fantastic upgrade. Road Shower installed that works great. Thule box and load bars included along with a Yakima bike rack for the rear hatch that holds 2 bikes. I have the factory owners manual set in the factory envelope. 187,400 total original miles. Subaru engine was installed at 165,000 miles and had head gaskets and timing belt/water pump all changed at that time. The engine showed no internal wear at all during this procedure. Interior and exterior are wonderful condition original. The van was kept garaged its whole life. There are a few dents but nothing major. The interior will be completely shampooed before the van is sold. We regret this decision already but are certain someone else will make fantastic memories with this Westy in the future. We have receipts totaling more than $31,000 for everything from GoWesty, Van Cafe, Bus Depot, German Transaxle, and RMW plus labor receipts from the VW Guru's who made a lot of this possible. Thanks for looking!
