Description:

1967 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow

The men from Crewe introduced their utterly modern Silver Shadow model in 1965 as a 4-door saloon. Shortly thereafter a 2-door variant appeared hand-built at the rate of one to two per week by Rolls' subsidiary H.J. Mulliner Park Ward of London. The demand was much higher than the supply for this car - with most people waiting over a year for theirs' to be hand-built. Exact numbers are hard to establish but Malcolm Bobbitt noted Rolls Royce authority suggests that just 199 left hand drive examples of this gorgeous Coupé were made all for export before it was was given its separate indentity "Corniche" in 1971. All U. S. export models came with power windows and air conditioning. This is a photo that was taken of this actual car for sale soon after it was purchased in 1967. It was highly esteemed by its owner a wealthy lady who loved the best. After nearly 50 years the car still draws enormous attention. It has traveled less than 88000 miles - or less than 2000 miles per year. The owner did not like the winters in the Northeast so she would have her chauffeur drive her to Bal Harbour Florida each winter in the car. The sticker is still on the windshield for the prestigious Bal Harbour Tower condo that she owned. Photo gallery click to enlarge A car is only original once. A one owner 1967 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow Mulliner Ward Park Coupe is unheard of in 2015. Photo gallery click to enlarge The car fires right up the first time and the bulletproof 6.2 litre V-8 purrs. The GM 400 transmission that Rolls Royce used shifts beautifully and the Coupe drives like the beautiful motorcar that it is. The wood is spectacular. The leather interior and wool carpeting are all original and in excellent shape. This speaks to the care that this car was given. The brakes have been done. The car has been tuned. A brand new $200 battery has been installed. All fluids have been changed. Is it perfect? No but there is nothing that will cause you to lose sleep at night. There are a few dings most of which could be handled with paintless dent removal but the elegance of a timeless work of art rolling down the road is still there. There is a lot of life left in the paint. The passengers window motor does not work - it needs to be rebuilt or replaced. The front bumper could use a re-chrome. The wind screen seals should be replaced. The car is worthy of a simple sympathetic refresh. You won't need to touch the expensive Connolly upholstery or the burl elm wood - they are both well preserved. How many opportunities are there to own a car with a pedigree? If you've been looking for a pedigreed early Rolls-Royce Coupé completely hand-built by Mulliner Park Ward here's your golden opportunity.
