This Lansing built 442 is one of 1,000 or so built in 1971 so it makes it a pretty rare car. I see Cutlass clones that sell for that much, and have no rear value and no rarity.
This car was restored in 2006, the odometer was zero timed at that point, it has around 26,000 miles on it since then.
It is finished in its original colors of Bamboo (Code 50) with Sienna interior (657) with a white convertible top.
This car is likely one of the most solid A body cars I have seen in a very long time, with a perfect frame, floors, trunk, fender dog legs, excellent spot weld definition on the bottom of the quarter panels, excellent door frame to door shell definition, absolutely no swelling or flaking in the rocker panel pinch weld area, just a very "always solid" car.
The car has some nice options, like power top, power steering, power disc brakes, buckets, console. ect.
The car fires right up and runs and drives really well.
This car is a excellent car that stayed with the original family from 1971 to 2006.
Sure, there is a few things I would upgrade, like putting the original radio back in the car. The 2 knob is stuck in 1992, thank God for that, because they didn't cut the dash.
Also the air cleaner is incorrect. My wife thinks everything in the garage that isn't on a shelf belongs in the garbage, and so it went. They are easy to aquire, but I was going to go with a "original tooling" parts place W-25 air cleaner and hood, some detailing, and sell it for 45K, but...Spring cleaning has told me to free up garage space.
This is not by any means a "fire sale". This is a real deal nice driver 1971 numbers matching 442 Convertible, that is rock solid, that you can tinker with that won't eat your pocket book, is very honest, does not need to be restored, just do a few gentleman style upgrades in your garage.
You will never lose money on the car, any way you shake it, if it were a perfect car, it would double the money! However, it has all the prerequisites required to make it a "no excuses" car.
I have been collecting Oldsmobiles since the 90's and this car surely does not disappoint.
