Description:

1970 Oldsmobile 442 Y74 Pace Car

1970 Oldsmobile 442 ConvertibleY74 Pace Car1 documented owner since new87,000 very well documented miles.Completely rust free numbers matching original car with excellent pedigree and attention to detail like none other!
Numbers matching from headlight to tail light. Every day of this cars life is easily verifiable as most of the family is still alive.
Dr. Robert Schloss M.D. of Fort Wayne, IN bought this car new on May 18th, 1970 from O' Daniel Oldsmobile, a now defunct Dealership in Fort Wayne. The car was candidly quite oddly ordered, with power steering, power brakes, power top, and that's about it...an emphasis on performance and not silly things such as a heavy A/C system and of course the Y74 Pace Car Package which included the paint scheme, W 25 functional ram air fiberglass hood and air cleaner, amongst other items. Do not confuse this car with it's little brother, the Cutlass Pace Car...this is the real deal 455 365hp/500tq car.
What makes this particular car of interest, is the fact that Dr. Schloss' family is on the Forbes list of 100 wealthiest families in the US.the Schloss family still owns most of the Midwestern telephone and internet services to the majority of the area, along with media outlets.
Dr. Schloss was a family practitioner at the time, and was buying a new muscle car every 3 months or so, according to local lore. He drove them sparingly until 1980, when he retired to be CEO of the phone company after his fathers death.
This particular car accumulated 86,000 miles at the time of Robert Schloss' death in 2005. His second wife kept most of the cars in his private museum. An on staff Oldsmobile certified mechanic kept the car in tip top ready to dispatch condition at all times right up until the day a decision was made to reduce the size of his collection.
The car is very original and very well kept, some of the finest I have ever seen. Everything works as new as intended.
The car was stripped and repainted in 2004 because Schloss whipped out his pen and said the car was no longer shiny. So, a high dollar repaint was commissioned to factory specs. The car returned in late 2004 and after Schloss verified the paint was perfect, looked at a oil spot on the floor and said...it's leaking oil. So, the motor and transmission were pulled, inspected, gone through and reinstalled by one of the foremost Oldsmobile Specialist's in the Country.
The car is superbly detailed! Runs and drives as delivered, maintained for almost 50 years with a open checkbook!
The car never spent a day outside in it's life!
It is a great mix of a excellent original car with one no expense spared repaint.
The cars mechanicals have been completely gone through, and the car runs and drives perfect!
The car is sold with a amended original title, stating purchase date as 5/18/70 and ACTUAL MILES INDICATED ON THE ONLY EVER REGRISTRATION DOCUMENT OF ONE MILE!
Only 253 examples of this machine were produced by Oldsmobile and less than 50 survive to this day in ANY condition....even fewer with the bench seat option this one retains.
