MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present this extremely rare and beautiful 1957 Nash Metropolitan coupe that we purchased locally from an owner who had to sell because she was relocating out of the country. The Metropolitan was the first time an American-designed car to be exclusively marketed in North America, and built entirely in Europe by the Austin Motor Company in England. The Metropolitan was intentionally marketed towards American Women and one of the American cars to have that distinction.

The previous owner was a woman executive with a major auto leasing company. Her neighbor had a yellow Metropolitan that she fell in love with and vowed one day she would have her own. In 2001 she found a dry and straight but un-restored Metropolitan in the area, bought it and decided to restore with a family friend. They started the restoration and like most decided (wisely) to send the car to a renowned company in Indiana specializes in Nash Metropolitans to finish the full nut & bolt restoration. In 2008 the nut & bolt restoration was completed to a show quality condition. She continued to enjoy and care for the car for the next seven years. It was by no means a garage queen, she occasionally drove it to work. Her career is taking her overseas and she reluctantly decided she needed to sell the car. We purchased the car from her which was understandably an emotional time.

In September 1957, the Metropolitan was subsequently marketed under the “Metropolitan” name only, and sold through Rambler dealers. It is believed that the Nash and Hudson Grille medallions were discontinued around October 1956,they were replaced with the “M” style grille medallion. This was the first time an American-designed car, to be exclusively marketed in North America, had been entirely built in Europe. A foreign-built vehicle sold and serviced by Nash (and later by American Motors) through its dealer distribution system

Finished in the correct brightly colored Caribbean Blue (code P-905) and Snowberry White (code P-909) this coupe displays a show quality paint extremely well. The front bumpers with optional chrome overriders fit is extremely tight and chrome finish is exquisite. The rear bumper mirrors the theme of the front bumper with an excellent finish. All the chrome and aluminum pieces are in excellent condition. The front grill displays extremely well, along with the headlight bezels and turn signals. Headlight and tail lights are in great condition with no hazing or cracking. The rear mounted “Continental style” spare tire is in very good condition. The overall condition of this Metropolitan is excellent and exactly what you would expect from a professional nut & bolt restoration

Inside, the correct excellent houndstooth and white vinyl front seats and rear seats appear in excellent condition. The matching door panels, black carpet and correct for 1957 black dashboard are a compliment of the striking blue & white exterior of the car and look fantastic. All gauges are located in their original place have correct appearance and function as originally designed. Equipped with the original heating is in excellent condition and functions as designed.

This Beautiful Nash is equipped with a Austin inline 4 cylinder engine fed by a Zenith carburetor and known to achieve over 30 mpg! Power is transferred to the rear wheels by three speed on-the-column manual transmission, The suspension consist of front independent, coil springs, wish bones, rear live axle, and semi-elliptic springs and front and rear drum brakes. The 13-inch with exterior color matching steel wheels have original Metropolitan center caps with B.F. Goodrich wide whitewall tires.

Micro cars have etched out their own niche in the classic car community and the Metropolitan is the American original. Excellent examples like this ’57 Metropolitan have become highly collectible and values keep rising due to their staying power and never-ending cuteness with all generations! GET OUT AND DRIVE!
