Description:

1980 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series

This is a no reserve auction. For sale by original owner:
A 1980 Hansa blue Mercedes Benz 240 D sedan. This vehicle has been garage kept for its entire life. All service records after 1998 are available for inspection and will convey with the vehicle, including the original bill of sale, owners manuals and shop manual. This vehicle features a perfect shifting four speed manual transmission.
This vehicle has been fully maintained by authorized Mercedes Benz mechanics only. I love the comfort and road feel of this car, bought new by my mother in 1980. Please note the following:
Cosmetics:
This is a beautiful example of the Mercedes Hansa blue color. The vehicle is rust free except for one small spot on the rear driver fender. I see no evidence of rust underneath the floor mats or in the trunk. Please note the photo of the rust spot.
The dashboard displays no sun damage or cracks.
Original carpet is in excellent condition. The visors are original and show typical sagging of cover material.
Mechanical:
This vehicle has 222,500 miles on the odometer. It runs very reliably.
I have been driving the vehicle twice weekly for the past four years. During this time, I had the following work performed by Sherick Automotive, a Mercedes-Benz specialist:
New glow plugs (probably b/c the car wasn't being driven weekly.)
New vacuum pump
New front hood liner
New tires; new spare tire
New clutch
New hood release cable
Repair and replace Air Conditioning components. A/C works very well.
Filters and oil change as prescribed.
Prior to this time, my parents faithfully maintained the vehicle at a Mercedes Benz dealership. All service records are available for the past 15 years.
Other:
The radio works well but does not provide the reception of current technology.
The dome light, rear defroster and radio back-light do not function. I haven't investigated the cause (e.g. fuse or bulb).Power locks work when locking but not when unlocking. Hmmm....
I find no evidence of an engine oil leak. This is good and a bit unusual.

Compression is good. I did not perform a compression test but avalveblow by test shows that valve and piston wear is minimal and typical for a gently driven vehicle with this mileage.
An inspection as of December 5, 2019 reveals: No rust to theundercarriage; the original undercoating is fully intact. There is early evidence that a front wheel bearing may require replacement. My mechanic informs me thatthis is a $500 repair for both front wheels. These are Washington, DC prices. Otherwise, there is no evidence of any needed repairs or service.
The original exhaust system has been replaced with a stainless steel system.
The fine print: $500 PayPal deposit due within 24 hours. The balance is due within seven days and must be paid in US cash or a certified check from a nationally recognized US financial institution. No cashier's checks.
Vehicle must be collected within a reasonable time (i.e. 7 days).
I reserve the absolute right to sell the vehicle locally to anon-eBay buyer anytime prior to auction closing. All eBay inquiries leading to a sale must be completed through eBay.
