1966 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series 230SL Leather

Just arrived!! Call Harry Clark at +1.602.245.7200 or email us at . This is a splendid 1966 Mercedes 230SL that was originally delivered to Rome, Italy as a Euro edition. We have the factory production records and receipts from Rome for maintenance and repair (if only we could read Italian!) dating back to at least 1980. The present owner is our consignment client and has enjoyed the ownership of this motorcar for the past 28 years. It is a...rust-free and largely original example that has had excellent servicing and has extremely low mileage. This is ready to enjoy as is or could easily be brought up to show standards. HISTORY OF THIS 230SL This 230SL was purchased new by Mr. Sil. Pautaloni Filippo on the 2nd of April 1966 at Autostar, S.P.A., the Mercedes dealership in Rome. We have records of the first several services. By 1980, the 230SL was owned by a Mr. Lloyd Douglas who was still having the car serviced at Autostar in Rome. We have numerous invoices for repairs and maintenance dating back about 40 years. By October of 1984, the 230SL was imported into the United States and was owned by Mr. Steve Klebanoff of Bethesda, MD. The car had accumulated 57,005 KM (about 35,000 miles). He had the engine rebuilt by Perfection Automotive in Herndon, Virgina, as soon as he bought the car in October of 1984. It was a comprehensive rebuild that is documented in the paperwork. On about May 23rd, 1989, Mr. Klebanoff sold the 230SL to its present owner, Mr. Alan Zins. It had by then accumulated 72,800 KM (about 45,000 Miles). On the 11th of April, 1994 the speedometer and tachometer were sent to Palo Alto Speedometer to be rebuilt. At that time, the odometer was reset to zero. It had accumulated 76,981 KM (about 47,700 Miles). This is fully documented. It has since traveled over 11,400 KM (about 7,100 miles) for a total documented 54,800 miles from new. CONDITION OF THIS 280SL The Silver Grey Metallic (Paint Code #180) livery was repainted in the 1990's and still looks very nice today. There are two small chips on the edges of the hood that could benefit from touching up. The paint shows that it has been very well cared for and has a new looking shine and finish. The Black Leather (Code #720) is all original and still very soft and supple and overall in excellent condition with exception of minor superficial cracking on the drivers seat (see photos for details). There are no splits or tears. It also features the very rare Kinderseat in back in matching black leather. The chrome and stainless have a consistent very good to excellent look, with only very minor pitting or scratching. The rubber is in very nice condition throughout as well as the lights and lenses. The factory hardtop is in consistent shape with the rest of the car, with only minor blemishes. The black canvas convertible top is likely original to the car and could benefit from being replaced. The steering wheel and interior trim are in excellent condition, with only minor wear on the drivers side carpeting. Everything functions as it should, as this has been well maintained as the near 40 years worth of receipts show. It runs and drives very well and stops with the assurance of the four wheel disc brakes. This Pagoda is ready to enjoy. This motorcar comes complete with the original owners manuals, books, 38 years of receipts, a hardtop storage rack and car cover. For more details, call Harry Clark at +1.602.245.7200 or email us at .
