He had purchased the car locally, the car having been in Downer's Grove, IL since at least the early 90s. Looking through the extensive file of documentation with the car, it appears... to have spent 1967-1983 (or later) in France. There is a copy of the French registration, showing the original registration issue date as November 1967 and current registration date of June 1983. The car will come with a letter from Mercedes Benz Oldtimer Center with a copy of the original build sheet and an explanation of the contents. This car retains its original drivetrain and has been kept as correct and original as possible over the years. A photo log of the car's history since the early 90s will also be provided, showing the car at various stages during the engine-out rebuild and paint/body work. Every blemish on the car is shown close-up and in direct sunlight. The most significant blemish is a small ding on the hood, from where it looks like the hood was closed with something still under there. This did not crack the paint. Other blemishes consist of nothing more than a couple small chips. - Papyrus White paint suits the car perfectly and looks fantastic. Paint was done in the late 90s and was done to an extremely high standard; there is no dust under the paint, run, or orange peel. Photos of the car brought down to bare metal during the repaint will come with the car. There is no bubbling on any of the body panels and the rockers are nice and clean. Panel fitment is excellent; doors, hood, and trunk all open and close smoothly. - Chrome is excellent throughout. Mirror-like, with no oxidation or damage. - Glass and light lenses are all clear and crack-free. Clear Euro headlights looks great. - Blue soft top is in good shape. There are a couple small spots where the top is fraying, on both sides by where the top meets the rear corner of the doors. This is visible in the photos. This car does not have a hardtop. - Wheels are in excellent shape, with no damage or oxidation. The dark blue painted hubcaps look fantastic. Michelin MX4 tires are in great shape, with tons of tread and no dry rot, but we are not positive as to how old the tires are exactly. - Weatherstripping is very nice throughout. No dryness, cracking, or discoloring. Interior: - Dark blue leather is in great shape. No significant scuffs, scratches, or burst seams, and no evidence of the interior having previously been refinished. - Gauges are all functional, including the odometer, which is known to have rolled over once and now indicates 57,730 km. This car spent the first twenty or so years of its life in France, and it retains the Euro (kph) gauges. Mileage is logged through a number of early-90s service receipts from when the car eclipsed 100,000 km, and there are many receipts showing mileage (km) since then. At 157,730 km, this car has just a hair under 100,000 original miles. - Becker Europa radio is functional, and looks just perfect situated in the center of the body-colored dash. - Fan and heat are functional. This car does not have air conditioning. Under the Hood / Underbody: - This car retains its original drivetrain and has seen a tremendous amount of mechanical tending-to over the years, outlined in the receipts breakdown at the beginning of this listing. The major engine rebuild from 1997 took place 34k miles ago. - Please take a look through the underbody photos, as it's documented in detail. Underbody is quite good. There is evidence of a repair on the driver's floor, but it appears to have been done correctly. Aside from that, the underbody is nice and dry. - This car is turn-key. A very well-sorted driver with no tendencies of concern. It starts pulls through the gears nice and smoothly with no delay or bucking from the transmission, idles cool and steady, sounds fantastic, brakes straight and effectively, and the steering is nice and direct. Ride quality is outstanding; this car's suspension has been thoroughly gone-through over the course of the last fifteen years and it shows. No dry, cracked rubber; very fresh-looking. Bilstein shocks as well, which is a plus. - Factory spare and toolkit will come with the car.
