1982 Mercedes-Benz G-Class 300GD

1982 Mercedes G Class/ G-Wagon. This was imported from Europe around 2008 I believe. I have a clean and clear Colorado title for this "Banana-Wagon" as my two little daughters like to call it. My wife has been daily driving it for a while now and its been rock solid. Much to the dismay of my wife, I need to let this G wagon go. I'm trying to finish an early 911 restoration and need to free up some cash. Early Porsche=$$$$=open your wallet and unhinge you jaw.
This is a great little 4 speed, diesel G-wagon. There are several places where the paint is starting to bubble (see pictures or email me for better pictures) but the floors, frame, fender wells and cargo area are all solid. Most of the rust is consolidated to surface bubbling but the rear driver side corner panel should be replaced. Honestly, this early imported G wagon is better than most of the ones being sold today. It has good bones. Please email me for undercarriage pictures of the frame, floors, videos, (I can FaceTime with you), etc....ebay will only let me upload 25 photos for this auction but I have more to send.
Brand new Cooper Discoverer Tires have been installed. I just replaced several fuel injection rail o-rings so now there are no fuel leaks, woohoo. Fresh oil change and filter about 200 miles ago. The blower motor was not functioning so I had the blower motor and heater core replaced about 300 miles ago. This was a big job that involved removing the entire dash!!. Very pricey repair. The shop replaced many components under the dash (heater core, blower motor, resistors, etc..) while it was out. I also have two new keys made up.
All of the lights, blinkers, brake/tail lights, running lights, front fog lights, interior dome lights, function as they should. Pretty much everything on this vehicle works properly. The clutch feels solid as does the motor, driveline and brakes. E-brake works phenomenally well. Transmission shifts smooth through all 4 gears and also smooth into Reverse. Front and rear lockers work as they should. 4wd engages smoothly and drives nicely. The fuel gauge bounces around a bit, we have just gotten into the habit of fueling up every weekend and that works just fine. The fuel gauge bounce is probably associated with a bad ground wire (to frame) from what I have read. The temp gauges reads just a click past halfway upon normal driving conditions. We haven't reached summer temps yet but the temperature gauge seems to read at normal limits while driving. The battery light flickers and glows a little bit sometimes while we are driving. The battery was replaced last year.
There is an oil leak that drips somewhat regularly/intermittently. Its probably the oil pan gasket but I haven't pressure washed the underside and investigated the leak. Its an old Mercedes and we are used to driving old rigs with oil leaks. I check the oil weekly and there doesn't seem to be much oil loss. I'm also sure that the motor does not burn any oil, its a pretty healthy little mercedes.
The interior is what I believe to be a rarer factory Recaro seat combo. Most of the G wagons that I have seen are equipped with flat, vinyl/plywood built seats. This thing has nicely bolstered factory Recaro front seats that are still very comfortable and firm to sit in. As you can see in the pictures, the factory seat fabric needs to be replaced should the next owner choose to do so. Otherwise just drive it and enjoy like it is! The rear seat is in great condition and folds up nicely to give you plenty of cargo room on the back area. The seat belts all work as they should and engage properly.
Both front doors, hood and rear barn door open and close really nicely. The body gaps are all really nice on this G-Wagon. That is the first thing I look at when buying an old vehicle. Everything opens and shuts with a nice "thud". A properly shutting door is one of the great things that you find in a nicely taken care (i.e. no previous accidents) vintage vehicle.
I encourage anyone who is serious about buying this vehicle to come to Colorado and inspect it first. You can crawl around underneath it, drive it and experience what its like to drive an old (read: slow) G-Wagen. Its a really neat vehicle that I wish I could hold onto. It is NOT a highway vehicle, we primarily drive it around town and it does just fine keeping up with traffic. I would say that 65mph is about the maximum in this rig. Like I said, my wife has been driving it daily and loves it. She has people stop her at traffic lights and fuel stops and tell her how cool it is. I don't think I've ever seen another G-Wagon in Western Colorado, its a pretty unique ride. I believe the yellow factory paint was fairly rare as I haven't seen any like it.
Please call or email me with any questions. I'm not trying to hide anything and STRONGLY encourage any questions, emails, phone calls or other inquiries regarding the condition. I have purchased vintage cars in the past and have been bummed out when the transport has shown up at my door. I feel like the pictures speak for themselves but I still have other photos that I can send (specifically the undercarriage). Thanks for your interest and good luck bidding. Look at my eBay feedback rating and bid with confidence!
I am glad to help arrange shipping for the buyer. Vehicle is sold as-is with no warranty expressed or implied.
***Please note that eBay does not recognize a european VIN number so I had to list my E500 VIN. I will be glad to provide a copy of the Certificate of Title from Colorado here. It was very easy to register here in Colorado.
