She is amazingly original and has only 106,500 miles. 1971 was the first year of the R107 body style; a car that went on to become one of the most venerable and beloved cars of all time, and #137 was built in July of 1971! Early 107 bodied cars are becoming very collectible; the lack of the american spec 5 mph bumpers and power sapping emission control systems gave these cars better performance then the later cars, while giving a much more attractive look. #137 Checks all the boxes for collectibility. The car is one of the earliest production R107 cars in existence.
These early cars has one more rare and desirable feature; the car has the 4.5 liter V8 that hiding under the hood. Even though the car is badged as a 350sl, these early american cars are blessed with the bigger and more powerful 4.5 liter motor!
This car is clad in her original Dark Olive Green (code 291- Dunkeloliv as verified by its original data card), has deep shine and great luster. Benefitting from a respray, the car is stunning. The body is straight and the panel gaps are factory. The car has always been pampered, and clearly has seen little inclement weather. The car comes with two tops; both the hardtop and the Black convertible soft top are in excellent condition. The convertible top mechanism works as it should. All body numbers match the factory data card, including the Hard top.
The Dark green interior is believed to be original, and remains in wonderful condition. The car has a period correct Nardi wood steering wheel. The chrome shift bezel i intact as is the dash and all of the veneers.
The 4.5 liter engine runs strong and has recently received a new timing chain. The engine runs smooth, has good power and torque, and starts and runs well. The transmission shifts smoothly; the car very drives well.
