Up for sale is my highly original and highly documented 1985 Mercedes-Benz 500SEL. It is Diamond Blue over Gray leather with only 48,973 original miles. Per the original sales paperwork it was sold new to Dr. George Marten of Miami, FL by Contemporary Cars, Inc. in Maitland, FL on 10/5/85 for the sum of $48,314.25 ($108,532.51 in 2016 dollars) with 183 delivery miles.
Present is the original owner's card, manuals, and service booklet which are all filled out by the original owner, Dr. George Marten. From the numerous records I have in my possession, Dr. Marten proceeded to maintain the car at authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer LP Evans Motors in Miami, FL with the first service formally logged in the service booklet at 1,212 miles. From there, LP Evans Motors routinely serviced the car with receipts documenting the work from 1987-1997.
There is a lack of much documentation from 1997-2006 (I'm assuming Dr. Marten died and his wife garaged it and drove it sparingly) and on 4/26/2006, Dr. Marten's wife sold the car to Mercedes-Benz of Pembroke Pines with 35,958 miles. More than likely through dealer to dealer transaction or dealer only auction, Dolphin Automotive Wholesale Group of Pompano Beach, FL acquired the car a short time after and on 6/1/2006, sold it to its second owner, Willard Robison of Saline, MI with 35,980 miles. I acquired the car a short time ago from the Robison family with 48,962 miles in the exact condition as pictured.
It does have some cosmetic flaws but mechanically, it runs excellent with confident mechanicals and documented service history. Cosmetically on the exterior, as pictured, the roof and trunk lid have experienced damage from sun fading and is down to the metal in some spots, likely due to the Southern Florida sun. The hood has minor swirl marks but no sun fade and the front and rear bumpers both have minor imperfections. Cosmetically on the interior, it's in pretty nice shape. The only flaws are 4 small cracks in the dash, again likely due to the Southern Florida sun, and some light wear on the driver's side bolster from entering and exiting the car. Electronics wise, everything works except for the radio and power antenna. The sunroof and windows all operate as designed, all the lights work, there are no dash lights on currently, and all the gauges, buttons, and interior lamps light up and work.
The wheels are in very nice condition overall and there is a set of newer Kumho tires currently installed. Overall it's a mechanically well sorted '80s flagship Mercedes in need of some easy cosmetic TLC.Clean and clear title in my name. Cash, wire transfer, or cashier's check.
