1963 Lotus Super Seven

I'm offering my very rare (#52 of 56 produced) Superformance S1 (Lotus Super 7) that was made in South Africa by Superformance in 2001. If you're not familiar, check them out at superformance.com. They are an extremely high end manufacturer and have produced the very best Seven on the market along side many six figure supercars. These cars are not just a blast, but a sound investment and are appreciating in value!
As with all Sevens, this car is almost go-cart light and is powered by a 2.0 Ford Zetec engine with Webcon electronic fuel injection, backed by a T-9 5 speed manual. In stock trim, it has a better power to weight ratio than a Dodge Viper!
The car was built in 2001 and has around 10,500 miles on it. It is in extremely good shape and ready for fun! It recently sustained very minor paint scratches during shipping from Hawaii (shown in pictures). Either the fenders can be removed and repainted or just dab some touch-up paint, your choice. Although the soft top is in excellent condition, one of the zippers will need to be repaired. (the slider came off)
I'm getting ready to retire in Baja and would be more interested in a high performance Polaris RZR, Can-Am X3, or similar as Baja is not really the place for this street legal go-cart.

Designed and built by the manufacturers of America's top-selling Superformance MKIII replicar, the S1 features all the innovations but none of the shortfalls of Colin Chapman's legendary Lotus Seven. Designed by a selected team of automobile and motor sport enthusiasts with a pool of knowledge to ensure that the S1 would not only equal the tradition of the Super Seven, but surpass its suberb performance, road holding and drivabiliy, the concept of a tubular steel space frame clad with aluminum paneling, a live rear axle and double wishbone front suspension is adhered to.
A wider track allows for a larger cockpit giving adequate body, leg and foot space for drivers and passengers up to 6'4" tall, weighing in at 250 lbs.
The S1 is an all-weather roadster with a heated front windsheild and hot and cold cockpit air supply. It features a lockable 5 cu ft trunk, removable side screen doors and opening windows, a soft top that can be used in the closed or T-top configuration, a steering wheel adjustable for height and rake and adjustable foot pedals that will accommodate any driver from 5'2" to 6'4" tall.
Being so low - overall height is just 40.6 inches - the S1 feels and handles like a powerful go-kart. It slips through tight corners with no body roll, the driving wheels firmly on the road. Visually, the S1 is a reminder of one of the most popular sports roadster/racers of the mid twentieth century, but its space-age finish in aluminum, glass fiber, carbon fiber and Kevlar, is of a quality unknown forty years ago - no less than what enthusiasts have come to expect from a Superformance product.
Built to exacting standards in Superformance's modern factory in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, only new parts fabricated in the plant or sourced from specialist suppliers all over the world are used to produce the sleek and handsome roadster.
The excellence of the exciting newcomer to the replicar market was recognized by its peers when the prototype Superformance S1 made its debut at Kit Car Magazine's 13th annual Run & Gun in September 2000 when the car was awarded the accolade of being Editor's Choice Car of the Show.
SUSPENSION:
Rear: To design a Super Seven clone with independent rear suspension would be sacrilege so a Mumford link is used to get the best handling and ride characteristics with the live rear axle. This link controls the lateral movement of the axle and has the distinct advantage of offering the best available roll center height control, keeping the roll center at optimal height, irrespective of the rear axle load. A four link system controls longitudinal movement and is designed to give optimum anti-dive, anti-squat and roll-steer control. To minimize the negative effect of high unsprung weight associated with live rear axles, a rising rate bell-crank system is used to actuate the coil-over dampers, which effectively increases the suspension stiffness as the rear axle load increases.
The Mumford link improves the ride and handling characteristics of the live rear axle.
Front:
The double front suspension geometry is optimized for camber, castor and roll-center height control. As the S1 is intended for road and competition use, the innovative design allows for independent camber, castor and king-pin angle adjustment similar to modern Formula One cars, using a unique two-part billet machined aluminum upright. Front-to-rear roll center height and spring/damper rates are designed to give weight transfer to the rear during cornering. This eliminates the need for anti-roll bars and a limited slip differential, even in 220 hp turbo-charged form for the raceway.
BRAKES: Nimble and light of weight, the S1 stops even quicker than it accelerates. Fitted with four wheel discs and 4-pot Wilwood calipers actuated by Wilwood master cyclinders, there is no need for a brake booster, stopping the roadster from 60mph in under 3 seconds! The adjustable pedal box accommodates a front to rear brake balance bar.
STEERING: The S1's steering geometry is designed to minimize bump-steer while giving sufficient Ackermann angle compensation in tight turns. A non-assisted steering rack with three turns lock to lock gives the S1 a twenty-seven ft. turning radius with very little effort - ideal for city traffic, auto cross, and the raceway.
WEATHER PROTECTION: The removable side screen doors minimize wind buffeting and downward opening windows control air flow into the cockpit when the soft top is up. The soft top is completely weather proof and when not in use, can be stowed in the lockable trunk.
CHASSIS: Lightweight tubular steel frame.
DRIVE TRAIN: Designed to accomodate a choice of engines (like all Superformance replicars the S1 is supplied fully built with all new parts, but without engine and transmission), it will sprint to sixty miles per hour in under five seconds with an unboosted two-liter engine under the hood.
THE COCKPIT: The large pedal box with its well-spaced pedals and the molded, contoured and padded seats offer comfortable accomodation for two burly adults. The small three-spoke leather padded steering wheel is adjustable for rake and weight.
As befits a sports roadster with a classic heritage, the carbon fiber dashboard features full instrumentation - an oil pressure gauge and tachometer in front of the driver, with center dash mounted white-on-black speedometer and smaller gauges indicating oil and coolant temperature, a fuel gauge and an analog clock. Yellow and red warning lights indicating low oil pressure and ignition status, as well as toggle switches for the headlights and a rear fog light, are mounted behind the steering wheel. A neat, lockable glove box completes the dash layout. The headlight dimmer switch, horn, and turn indicator switch are dash-mounted and a small center console houses a variety of toggle switches to operate the windshield wiper and washer, hazard lights, air blower fan, and windshield demister. Provision for a radio is located above the row of toggle switches.
